Good Ol' Freda Reviews

Dec 17, 2016

A very sweet movie about a real Beatles insider. A well told story about Freda's life running the fan club of the biggest rock group ever. Beatles fans will love the details about early fame days in Liverpool. Freda is clearly a trusted person who dearly loved the Fabs. Well worth watching.

This documentary is absolutely amazing for the simple reason that Freda is an amazing soul and probably the best safe keeper of the Beatles mania from the 60's. The film is beautiful done and the passion, commitment and strong determination of this woman you make you understand why Epstein chose her over thousands of other girls to become the 5th member of the most famous quartet in music history. Humbling and enchanting from start to finish.

Really enjoyable look back at the birth of the Beatles and the lives of those around them in the early days of the band

A beautiful story about a beautiful woman who worked for the Beatles. If you love the Beatles, then this is a treat. You will see and hear things that you've never seen or heard of the Beatles.

Integrity and friendship is a kind of genius too.

The friend behind the Beatles, good memories

A documentary on the Beatles from the point of view of Brian Epstein's secretary. Some great info from a fan on the inside. Reluctant to "kiss and tell" the film lacks drama however. For me, it shows a personable side of Ringo as he and his Mom take Freda under their wing. Beautifully shot with nice visuals of Liverpool, even the interviews are visually pleasing.

Immensely enjoyable documentary about the secretary and head of the Beatles' fan club. Worth it for the fantastic photos alone!

A charming though minor little movie about Freda Kelly, Brian Epstein's secretary and head of The Beatles fan club from 1963 to 1973. A shy and unassuming woman, she tells her story from the heart as she is ushered to places she obviously hasn't seen in forty years. You can see in her eyes as she connects with her memories. For a Beatles fan like me , this is a heartwarming andf informative narrative.

If you even halfway like the Beatles, this is a must watch. Freda Kelly is the spark to this documentary. She's lovably, clever, funny, and just genuinely wonderful to listen to talk about the Beatles. There is so much insight and so many wonderful stories. Please, please, please watch this documentary.

Freda Kelly was the Beatles' secretary. A shy, humble girl who's admirably loyal to the band's privacy. Hence, this documentary is deadly uneventful. Even at just 86 minutes, the film seems too long, and Kelly's endless shrugs, giggles and blushes soon turn tedious. The stress on soundbites from forgotten Merseybeat musicians over thoughts from, say, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Martin is another glaring problem. The score cuts corners by featuring just a handful of Beatles songs and filling the void with earlier songs that the group covered.

I loved this. Like all the reviews point out, after several decades since their dissolution, there aren't many new things to be learned about The Beatles. Still, that isn't the purpose of the documentary. This is an open love-letter to the their memory from one of the people who knew them best throughout their career on both a personal and professional level. She had a front row seat from the Cavern Club to the roof of Apple Records... who wouldn't want to hear that story?

pithy review: fanatic's fab four flashbacks.....

Adorably sweet documentary about the woman who acted as The Beatles' secretary and president of their fan club. Having previously been extremely shy and reluctant to talk about her experiences with the band, this film acts as a record for her grandchildren to know about her rock and roll early days. Those hoping for salacious new details and stories about the band though will be disappointed. Freda holds true to her honor toward the band by not kissing and telling on anything. Some may find this obnoxious but its actually what makes her story and this film so charming. Fellow Beatles fans should not miss it!

Excelente documental sobre la secretaria de Los Beatles, ella trabajo con ellos 11 años desde los días de la caverna hasta la separación, una muchacha de 17 años con integridad, sentido común y lealtad.

The perfect Sunday morning "Breakfast with the Beatles" documentary on the teenage girl who ran their fan club from the beginning to the end of the band.

Available on Netflix instant, this movie was super cute, fairly short, and offered lots of perspective about the Beatles' early years, as well as an interesting account from one of the few in their inner circle who has never chosen to write a tell-all book.

A decent documentary about the, mostly, unknown secretary for the Beatles. For fans of the Beatles this is pretty interesting, especially towards the end, when she gets into the dissolution of the band; however, it often feels repetitive.
