A Goofy Movie Reviews

Apr 26, 2025

"A Goofy Movie" never achieved the same financial and critical status as "The Lion King", but it is not the worst film Disney ever released in the 1990s. It's a heartwarming story and an allegory for why familial relationships are important especially during the teen years. As we mature and enter adolescent we tend to pull away from our parents and see them as old school. At the same time parents are worried that they're losing their children. It's a reminder that we all need to compromise especially when it comes to contrasting values. It's a really great movie and Disney needs to treat it with love. Not to mention that it has a star studded cast including Joey Lawrence and Jenna von Öy ("Blossom") and a powerful soundtrack featuring Tevin Campbell. It's a cult classic and deserves more recognition.

A Goofy Movie is a Masterpiece of Kevin Lima, and Goofy is my favorite Disney character.

Coming up on its 30th anniversary, it's no wonder A Goofy Movie is a suburban cult classic, even though it was handled by one of Disney's television production crews. Longtime master of animated "Mickey Mouse" slapstick, Goofy, is portrayed lovingly as a single father to his awkward son who's embarrassed to be associated with him. Both angles are something anyone can relate to and find comfort in, good or bad relationship with a parental figure. After an intense confrontation where Goofy is immensely disappointed following the map debacle, the two find common ground in such a realistic way, reflecting upon an unfortunate situation turned bonding experience. Bill Famer voicing Goofy as a human being when the time calls, Powerline's 80s and 90s star status, and a genuinely sweet romance between Max and Roxanne. A girl who absolutely notices and likes him, even though he still feels the need to prove himself. In the years following its debut, it deserves to be the big deal it became in Disney's classic library.

I loved this movie as a kid growing up. I would watch it and rewatch it . Max was my first crush back then. The songs are catchy and up beat and the characters are funny and colorful.Be careful if you don't want your kids watching a movie with a little adult humor .

**Review: A Goofy Movie (3/5 stars)** Always been a Disney fan, so watching *A Goofy Movie* to celebrate its 30th anniversary felt like the right move. And honestly? It holds up *really* well. Behind the wacky antics, slapstick gags, and dad-joke energy is a surprisingly deep, emotional story about a father trying to connect with his teenage son before he slips away. Goofy isn’t just being, well, goofy—he’s trying. And Max? He’s just trying *not* to turn into his dad. It’s relatable from both sides, depending on where you are in life. The songs? Bangers. “Eye to Eye” alone is enough to earn a gold star. Classic Disney animation, catchy tunes, and some pretty sharp writing make this feel like more than just a kids’ flick—it’s layered. Adults will see their own families in here, whether they like it or not. That said, I think this would hit even harder if I were a dad, or had that kind of father-son dynamic in my own life. Without that extra emotional punch, it’s a strong 3 stars for me—but I get why it’s a beloved classic. Not just nostalgia; it’s got heart under the hijinks.

A must-see classic. Loved watching this movie as a kid (with an estranged dad), and it perfectly encapsulated the misunderstandings and love between a father and newly-teenaged son.

It’s not a terrible movie, but it is far from being the unsung classic some people like to portray it as these days.

Yes, it's horrible what Powerline did to those young boys (allegedly), but nevertheless: "A Goofy Movie" is a very goofy movie indeed (except for its lame father and son storyline)! The movie is packed to the brim with stuff you wouldn't find in a Disney movie today. There is a death toll. There is a mafia murder victim singing with a reanimated corpse. Bigfoot dancing to the Bee Gees. And, finally, there are so many fetishes on display here. In short: There's something here for everyone.

It's one of Disney's simpler movies, but still a hidden gem.

I want to see a re-review on this movie from rotten tomato. Who ever gave this a 5ish was clearly not a parent yet. While yes, I grew up with this movie and loved it from Max's pov back then, now, I relate to Goofy.... and the "oh, he embarrassed Max" review is BS.
