Gosford Park Reviews
I don't think I've ever seen the British class system of the 1930s so artfully dissected. It's all the more remarkable when you consider that Altman is a 76-year-old American -- albeit a Southern gent. A huge, huge treat.

Robert Altman's brilliant new film is part Upstairs Downstairs, part Agatha Christie, but mainly it is a piece of social observation as good as anything Altman has hitherto delivered.

A masterclass in narrative plate-spinning from Robert Altman and his feast of a cast.

Not exactly a "comedy", even a dark one, but suffused with a tart, ironic wit.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | May 28, 2022
A beautifully acted, intricately made, and delightfully critical picture that nonetheless locates moments of humanity in a debased class system.

The beauty of Robert Altman's Gosford Park is how it delicately balances the numerous storylines to create a wonderful mosaic of characters.

For a film about homicide and class conflict, Gosford Park is surprisingly congenial.

Gosford Park expertly melds comedy and drama, eventually adding a pinch of intrigue with a second-act slaying.

The film's end is especially haunting in a way I didn't initially grasp, and though his two following films definitely have their merits, Gosford Park has rightfully earned a reputation as Altman's last great work.

A riotously fun take on the murder mystery genre, and the finest of the director's late period works.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Nov 26, 2018
Great fun and remarkably, at two and a quarter hours, not a minute too long.

This a marvellously entertaining confection, served up with a wonderfully light touch

Robert Altman brings his gift for big, sprawling dramas knit with a fine weave of characters and a massive cast up to the task of filling them up with lives to the Merchant Ivory idiom of the manners and manors...

Wonderful British whodunit with some sexual content.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 24, 2010
Taking advantage of a splendid cast, a sharply focused script and the fresh English setting, "Gosford Park" emerges as one of the most satisfying of Robert Altman's numerous ensemble pictures.

Gosford is fine, well-groomed entertainment, but the road it takes has already been well paved.

Masquerading as a whodunit, Gosford Park is really an intricate examination of the rigid English class structure that started to transform between the two world wars.
