Grease 2 Reviews
There is a gender-flipped gonzo goofiness to the film that was wildly ahead of its time in ’82 and, sadly, likely remains so today.

Grease 2 is a near-unmitigated failure: commercially, creatively, basically entirely.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Jul 19, 2022
A kind of watered down version of a John Waters movie with unmemorable songs (but Tab Hunter's 'Reproduction' is a stand-out).

Grease 2 has somehow managed to pick up a decent amount of devotees over the decades, which makes me believe there must be hope for the likes of Battlefield Earth and The Hottie & the Nottie.

Besides the sad fact that the screenwriter (Ken Finkleman) had to carbon copy the original (perhaps he was forced to by Carr), many of the songs, while hummable, have innocuous lyrics that even high schoolers would find laughable.

Grease 2 might have catchy tunes that are few and far between but at the end of the day, it's just a gender-flipped remake of the predecessor and can't capture the same magic.

A rather awful sequel to the mostly awful original.

But here's the thing - Grease 2 will win you over with its unique approach to movie sequelry.

Its cast stuffed with old-school celebrities like Connie Stevens, Tab Hunter, Sid Ceasar and Eve Arden, its soundtrack cluttered with clunky new songs...

What I want from this material is a stylized rock musical, and what I keep getting are stale Broadway routines.

The original was a hard act to follow but this energetic sequel floats on a raft of ditties from the likes of Tab Hunter and Connie Stevens. That said, the questionable 'Reproduction' has to be heard to be believed.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 28, 2019
It is, in fact, something of a camp classic, enjoyable on its own terms and boasting a marvellously insouciant performance from Pfeiffer as the leader of the Pink Ladies.

Unlike Grease's "cool" Rizzo (Stockard Channing), Stephanie doesn't have to be mean to anyone who doesn't fit into her Pink Lady standard. She's just cool, period.

Grease 2 is a film with a female protagonist who is unabashedly herself to the judgment of her peers.
| Feb 27, 2019
Aimless and horribly dull, with its vigorous group dances failing to compensate for the insipid songs.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 29, 2018
The singing, dancing and staging isn't memorable in Grease 2. It's just imaginative and energetic enough to keep you interested. The same can be said for the whole film.

This movie just recycles Grease, without the stars, without the energy, without the freshness and without the grease.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 15, 2015
It doesn't work, but you could spend the time spotting relatives of the stars.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 15, 2015
Definitely of the so-bad-it's-almost-good genre, this kinda stands the test of time in a camp way, mainly because of the charm of Pfeiffer and Carrington.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 15, 2015
I don't mean to deny the self-evident second-rateness of the project, just to suggest that it's preferable to the third-rateness that has become the norm in the genre.
