Groundhog Day Reviews
On the contrary to Phil, the movie just flies by. It's a charming and funny movie from start to finish.
Funniest movie ever made. Full of charm.
This truly is a classic. Bill Murray's acting in this movie is fantastic, as if he's not even acting and actually in the story. The plot of the movie is amazing, and I really enjoyed myself while watching this. I definitely recommend this movie to anybody who hasn't seen a time-loop movie before.
Easy watch. Excellent from start to finish. Watched in 2025 for the first time, and had no feelings of it being 'dated'.
Once you get past the ridiculous premise, you realize you have a very special film here. The lead role is tailor-made for Bill Murray and Andy McDowell has her role of a lifetime. Direction is excellent as well!
I do understand it's supposed to be funny. I'm just not a Bill Murray fan and I just simply didn't enjoy this movie.
A great comic turn by Andie McDowell and even Bill Murray. Poignant at times laugh out loud at others.
Groundhog Day is one of those movies that never really gets old, no matter how many times you watch it. The premise is simple yet brilliant, a man finds himself reliving the same day over and over, but what makes it so engaging is how well the story unfolds. The pacing is solid, with a decent start that smoothly transitions into the second act, keeping things interesting without dragging. The buildup leads to a heartwarming and satisfying climax that feels well-earned rather than forced. Bill Murray absolutely owns this role, delivering a performance that perfectly balances sarcasm, frustration, and subtle character growth. His comedic timing is spot-on, making the humor feel natural rather than overacted. Andie MacDowell is a great counterpart, bringing warmth and sincerity to the screen, while the supporting cast adds to the charm without feeling like background noise. The script is sharp, filled with witty dialogue and comedic moments that don't rely on cheap gags. It's a rare comedy that manages to be both entertaining and meaningful without losing its fun. The directing by Harold Ramis is excellent, keeping the repetition from feeling repetitive. Each cycle through the day is presented with enough variation and energy to keep the audience engaged. Cinematography isn't flashy, but it does what it needs to, capturing the small-town setting with just the right balance of warmth and dreariness, depending on the mood of the scene. The framing and editing make the time loop feel seamless rather than repetitive, which is key for a movie like this. The score complements the film well, though it's not the kind of soundtrack you'd find yourself listening to on its own. It enhances the mood, subtly shifting as the story progresses. Sound design also plays a crucial role, reinforcing the sense of déjà vu without making it tiresome. Overall, Groundhog Day is a well-crafted movie that blends comedy, heart, and an engaging story into something truly timeless. It's the kind of film that reminds you why some classics stay relevant, and honestly, I miss seeing more movies like this today.
Simply one of Bill Murray’s best performances. It’s as if the story was written knowing he would take the lead role.
Can’t find anything to fault about this film. It is exactly what you want in a Bill Murray comedy and watching the repeatedly every year doesn’t diminish the laughs. Well balanced out with the realistically dark moments you’d have if stuck in a time loop. There is a reason so many people try to imitate this.
We’ve all lived our own Groundhog Day—stuck in a loop, desperate for change. Murray’s Scrooge-like edge makes it work, and the happy ending hits with just the right amount of bite.
Classic. We watch it every year.
Watch it every year, never gets old.🤧
Whats not to like about this classic?! Bill Murray progresses through all of the stages of becoming a truly wonderful human being with a comedic timing that is unsurpassed. From the arrogant star, through finding ways to get selfishly what he wants from anyone, to finding what it takes to be genuine with his feelings to make his best selfand finding out that his humble self has finally found love, peace, and happiness. Its a lesson we all can benefit from while memorizing the most hilarious lines you will find yourself using in your own life. We have seen it hundreds of times, but the line is always that weve only seen it once.over and over again!!
classic. wish Andie was a prettier actress.
I have watched this movie a half dozen times over the years, each time I appreciate it more. A great movie for anyone who needs to be the best version of themselves. The repeated days aggregates to over three decades, Bill Murrey does a great job with his character arc, easily his best work. All the supporting characters are spot on and diverse enough to offer at least one relatable soul, and lastly the Direction from Harold Ramis really brought it home. Its a real shame this movie created a rift between Murray and Ramis as their chemistry in making movies is best exemplified by this final product.
What a gem this, by now, classic is. Murray is no less than brilliant, living out his and our fantasies and infinite opportunities if there were no tomorrow.
Really good comedy drama. Really liked it.
