Full of an abundance of heart, Half Brothers encourages us to rediscover that which means the most to us in life before its too late while tackling political themes in a comedy made for all audiences.
| Original Score: 7.5/10 | Mar 7, 2022
Half Brothers proves predictable and sentimental - a reasonable recipe for getting good-hearted laughs in what ultimately turns into a warm and funny family story.

Half Brothers has funny moments and performances, but it deserved a less derivative and more focused script. [Full Review in Spanish]

Despite welcome appearances from trusty character actors like José Zúñiga and Vincent Spano (Alive reunion!), the goat is the best member of the cast.

Good comedies are hard to come by these days. You can not lose with Half Brothers. Having said that, set your expectations low and enjoy the ride.
| Original Score: 8.5/10 | Jan 12, 2021
A sentimental juvenile buddy comedy that lacks taste and humor but might have a heart I'm not giving enough credit for.

A mix of buddy comedy and road movie with its heart in the right place. [Full Review in Spanish]

Seeing the glass half empty here. [Full Review in Spanish]

The film has warmth, and some potent depictions of the horrors of the Mexican immigrant experience. And, perhaps taking a cue from the French bulldog in Due Date, it has an adorable little goat. When in doubt, put in a cute animal.

Director Director Luke Greenfield's bromantic comedy is a tonal mess, shifting from immigrant drama to infantile comedy. It's almost like someone created the screenplay off of the narrative limbs of others. Mendez deserves better.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Dec 24, 2020
Little works here. Stereotypes roam. It's an endless array of "Mexicans do this, Americans do that" for 90 minutes, with predictable story beats being thrown in along the way.
| Original Score: D | Dec 15, 2020
A very Hollywood-in-style kind of dumb-romp road trip picture complete with its share of half-assed shenanigans.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Dec 13, 2020
For the banal Half Brothers, a beneficial perspective would be one of the "eyes shut" variety.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Dec 12, 2020
Uneven buddy comedy has sentimental, jarringly sad moments.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 9, 2020
It's formulaic [and] we've seen it before, but it's endearing only because these two actors act as if they've never done this before.
| Dec 8, 2020
The actors bring some commendable lightness to it and there are a number of scenes that work for me despite being utterly predictable.

Espinosa and Del Rio have little to build on than their characters' flimsy outline, and neither can really make their rapport work.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Dec 7, 2020
Sometimes too sugary for its own good, Half Brothers manages to fly thanks to its two leads, good intentions and some funny social jabs included. [Full review in Spanish]
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Dec 7, 2020
A funny, moving film driven by two good performances amplifying the message of inclusivity, family, and the importance of various perspectives
