What to Know

Critics Consensus

A gift for long-suffering fans after numerous subpar sequels, David Bruckner's Hellraiser unlocks the puzzle box for getting this franchise back on the right track.

Audience Says

The 2022 Hellraiser is better than a lot of the other films in this franchise, but it's still nowhere near as scary or exciting as the original.

Drew Gregory Autostraddle What works most about the new Hellraiser are its leads. Odessa A’zion’s performance makes up for a lot of what the script lacks. Feb 9, 2023 Full Review Kim Newman Empire Magazine The elaborate new Cenobite designs owe as much to Guillermo del Toro’s bioclockwork as Barker’s S&M body mods, but yet again the emissaries of Hell stand around being philosophically evil rather than doing much of anything. Rated: 2/5 Nov 8, 2022 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (LAist) [Odessa A'zion] is just wonderful. Oct 14, 2022 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine It may be the third-best Hellraiser movie, but you really have to have seen fifth-through-eleventh best to know what a relief that is. Rated: 6/10 Jun 23, 2024 Full Review Federico Furzan Movie-Blogger.com In David Bruckner’s 2022 renditionof Hellraiser, things change. He has no intention of remaking the same film and goes with his own screenwriters to helm a modern version of a tale that isn’t easy to dig into. babarizam D This film is so bad that one ask question how everything is so simple, easily reaching to the rich guy's state, going away from a single woman who actually knew what the puzzle was about and than she goes inside the castle and everything was just laying there, no one else able to find it but her. wow Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Adam B In a movie that, admittedly, is miles better then most of this franchise, it suffers from its extended run time not feeling needed. A very exposition heavy first full hour leads into a rather exhilarating final hour with stupendous settings rivaling that of the second film. That being said, making it to this final hours is a long, boring snoozefest. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Sarah C Astounding practical effects employed with the Cenobites, and Jamie Clayton’s performance as Pinhead lives up to the original. None of the characters were annoying, and at worst the main character’s story is serviceable. To me it served as an acceptable backdrop for scenes with the cenobites or the human villain’s story, which I found more interesting. I go back and watch all the scenes with the cenobites sometimes because I think they are so cool and well done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review Ian S Less dark, for the more easy watching market. I didn't mind it, but nowhere near the much darker original. The cenobites looked OK, and still bit S&M freaky. Suggest people who did dnjoy this watch much darker original. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Katarina S Whoever designed these rubber aliens to represent hellraisers should not make any more remakes. Is nothing sacred to you anymore? Does everything have to ruined? There are so many books that can be an inspiration, waiting to be adapted to the screen, but noooo...you have to ruin the existing ones. This is not for any generation, this does not belong in horror...it does not belong anywhere. Also make the Devil wear a skirt and powder his nose and immediately stop filming ever again. I was right for not watching it earlier 👎👎👎 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review TROY S Hellraiser is a reinvigorated reboot that gets the blood pumping, starting with Jamie Clayton’s worthy Pinhead performance that sets a fresh tone with immense reverence paid to Clive Barker's works.
