Here Comes the Devil Reviews

May 21, 2022

Engaging, slow burn horror/suspense film from Mexico about two siblings that get lost over night and when they come back they're kind of off - way off. Not really that original yet it does keep you engaged as to what the parents will do to help their children. Average.

Worth seeing at least once, English subtitles don't detract from the movie at all. Some of the plot points are a bit cluttered or not clear, however it's worth one view for fans of horror.

Surprised by the weak reviews. This movie is a masterpiece in the vein of 70s satan/cult flicks. Stays with you long after the movie is over.

Dubbed (spanish). Not scary at all and seemed like a low budget indie. The story was meh with a minor twist at the end. Def'ly wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Giving this a high rating just because a lot of the subplots I didn't quite get, plus, there's the fact that it creeped and scared me out of my wits for several months. There's such an odd, hellish, demonic aura from this movie that knows exactly how to treat its subject matter: like if it was pagan, satanic and from the depths of hell. I do believe this is how Mexicans view their satanic folklore, and so with that said, I highly recommend this movie for people that love getting scared by ambience, difficult themes, and art, as this does take a few viewings to wrap your head around.

I think this was better than the tomatometer suggests. It was a fairly slow burn with occasional weak spots, but also some very effective, very creepy scenes. Mostly understated with flashes of violence. It felt quite real at times with a lot of emotional, psychological drama. I wouldn't say it's a great movie, and at times it felt like it should have been pushed further, but it was interesting and for the most part enjoyable.

To all the horror movie fans, this production is a waste of time. It's not scary, nor is it captivating.

i knew the beginning of this one -- i must have started to watch this and then lost the interest to read subtitles and stopped. i do that sometimes; i thought this title seemed familiar. i watched the whole thing this time though -- very much loved the ending. and i'm talking the last, like, 2 minutes. literally: the ending. the rest of it was just okay; more creepy notions than scary -- you pretty much know what happened right away so there's nothing to guess as far as plot goes... you just kinda have to watch it do it's thing and then they pull a quick stunt at the end and that's about it.

soooo....you'll like this movie if your into one of the following: guys who fuck dirt, snap zooms, audio budgets of 1 lav and 1 boom regardless of scene, tits tits dick tits sex tits, story that finally develops 3 secs shy of the credits- so when the movie should start not end, people who are all like "sure lets gut this guy, ok", more snap zooms, over "horror" effect sounds for no reason, the location budget of a cave- as is-and a hill to that cave (one angle). If all of these things interest you then this is your film.

This movie is knd of a masterpiece of subtle storytelling, motivated characters and a shadow lurking around the corner that we never quite get to see, "Here Comes The Devil" is a rare example of slow-burning suspense paying off.

I felt like it wasn't my body. A long married couple takes their children to the hills of Tijuana exploring the Mexican landscape. As the children wander the countryside, the parents get busy in the car hoping to spark their relationship. They fall asleep and their children appear lost forever. When they finally reunite with their children, something is different. "We thought it must have been a delusion." Adrian Garcia Bogliano, director of 36 Steps, The Accursed, Late Phases, Cold Sweat, I'll Never Die Alone, Rooms for Tourists, and Watch'em Die, delivers Here Comes the Devil. The storyline for this picture had potential, and could have been more intense, but wasn't consistent throughout. The acting is solid and the cast includes Laura Caro, Fracisco Barriero, and Alan Martinez. "It was considered a cursed place." I recently came across this on Netflix and decided to add it to my queue. This had some intense and worthwhile scenes, but didn't come together as wise as I hoped. This is worth seeing for fans of the horror genre, but doesn't live up to its potential. "Are you ashamed?" Grade: C

.Seventies horror is some of my favorite horror, so I'm on board with this throwback. At least theoretically. There's a sexual subtext that's odd even by horror movie standards (although I did think the second sex scene was kind of hot - and I never say that about movies). Unfortunately, most of the movie worked more for me because I "got it," rather than because I actually felt involved by it. The casting is interesting, too. That ending? Part of me thought it was clever, but most of me found it anti-climactic. Not great overall, but solid

Moody horror, which doesn't quite come together as a whole, despite the tense final scene.

It tried, but ultimately it failed in its execution. The first half hour turned into soft core porn and the rest an unsatisfying demon tale. The cinematography was forced and cheesy.

Mexican film is getting weird... and I like it.

I'm always looking for a new horror movie but hadn't heard of this film until today (1/24/15). Odd, as I would've thought more reviewers would have included it on their "Scariest of '13" or "20 to Watch in 2013" lists. I found Laura Caro's performance to be extremely effective, and I didn't see any terrible weak spots among her costars. The build lasts longer than some might like, but my chief criticism? The myriad of tangents and subplots unnecessary to the film's progress. However, I enjoyed the main storyline- Id even go as far as to say that I was disappointed when the movie ended. I could have gone for some more- maybe 75% out of having fun and 25% born of wanting more plot resolution. Notes: 1. This film contains what has to be the most heavy-handed use of visual sexual imagery in the history of film: a rock formation that looks more like a vagina than most human vaginas. 2. There are some extremely disturbing juxtapositions of sexuality- but not to the point of plot interference. 3. If I were in Caro's shoes, I might've looked to confirm that I wasn't just losing it before I (ostensibly) murdered the children. 4. Barreiro has a notably impressive mustache. Thanks for reading; enjoy the film! -E

This was a decent slow, steady burn, though I must admit I was hoping for a bit more. The comparison to 70's horror was certainly missed on me though, and I've seen my fair share.

I waited to long to watch this movie but it was great it's a Spanish movie so you have to be willing to sit through subtitles but if you can you will enjoy this movie. MY NOTES: I like the way this movie started and the direction it went I only had one problem with the ending (I wanted more) this Spanish movie pushed the boundaries of horror with a good pace and very good acting I was really surprised and glad I gave this movie a chance

Low budget but creepy and scary! Keep wanting to find out what's going to happen next. Well done horror.

Here Comes the Devil is a good mystery movie that keeps you guessing to see what happen. I'm really glad the questions were answered at the end because it look like it was never going to answer them and let the viewers up to interpretation which is fine, but it's not that kind of movie that does it. It's not really scary and it doesn't really try to be scary, it was trying to be more of a mystery film. When the twist is finally revealed, it really did shocked me and I didn't think it would go that route. The slow pace would turn some viewers off, and the viewers have to be patient in order to understand what's going on. But for what it is, Here Comes the Devil is an interesting film that is for mystery fans and a bit for horror fans.
