Hesher Reviews
This is a unique movie, have seen nothing else like it. Hesher is a magical character with a filthy mouth, personally I really enjoyed his inventive obscenities but probably best not to watch with the kids. For a movie about dealing with grief, it manages not to drag you down, but get your adrenaline pumping.
When you're an hour into the movie and realize you haven't enjoyed one second of it, you have to ask yourself, should I continue? I mean, shouldn't there be some payoff by now. I like indies, but have a point.
Acting is top notch all around, and writing Hesher had to be a liberating experience. Loved every second of it, and I wish more movies took risks like this more often.
It's unquestionably a bizarre movie with some heart, but JGL's Hesher wears out his welcome relatively quick and none of the other characters (sans grandma) really bring much to the table. Hesher is a pretty forgettable one. Case in point: I saw this in the theater when it came out and just watched it again and remembered absolutely none of it.
Gritty look at life for those suffering loss. Similar to the series Wayne but without the humor and pathos. Nothing is resolved perhaps the father's sence of purpose. There could have been so much more
Love this movie. Was just out of your head fuck you fun. What you always really wanted to do to the bully. A knock your head into it and get that message across film. No tiny steps here folks. Wam bam thank you mam style of some nut crackin head banging open your eyes dont care what the neighbors lawn looks like kinda fun.
I'm not quite sure if this movie can be categorized as part of any kind of genre, it's part comedy, heavy on the drama and is kind of dark and part metal. 🤘 Joseph Gordon Levitt is Hesher, a loner that does what he wants when he wants including ingratiating himself into the home of young teen TJ who along with his dad and grandma are grieving the loss of his mother. Darkly funny and heartbreaking this is a pretty great movie. Great performances from the cast which also includes Rainn Wilson, Natalie Portman and Piper Laurie.
There’s not much of a point to this movie but it’s definitely entertaining. I laughed really hard many times. It’s titled as a drama but there’s a lot of comedy in it. Worth watching!
I absolutely loved this crazy heartbreaking movie! Devin and Rainn made me cry like a baby! Anybody that didn't like this movie can suck a bag of 🍆‼️‼️‼️
This may be my favorite Joseph Gordon role outside of inception . But boy did Natalie Portman do little man wrong 4.0
Pretty deep (emotional). Dark comedy for sure. I definitely enjoyed it. Some parts seemed a bit over the top, other than that it was good.
Hesher is a very underrated indie movie that can actually improve the genre single handedly. It is also one of the best Rainn Wilson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt movies so far. Once you see it, it's hard to forget it even though there ins't any insane Midsommar moments.
I liked this very odd movie that is NOT for everyone. Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a great performance as Hesher. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it's about, but I did like it. One minute I was laughing and then I was feeling sad the next minute. Check it out if you want to see something different.
An original take on a trite formula, Hesher bridges drama, and comedy with finesse. It doesn't really go anywhere by the end, but come into it with this in mind and you'll be pleasantly surprised with one of the most overlooked films of the last decade.
Levitt gives one of his best performances of his career and to think it's largely under-looked. A must see for dark humor and Joseph Gordon-Levitt fans
Its story is lacking but its performances at least make it watchable, even if there isn't any reason to root for any of these characters.
The feel good family movie of the year, for Hesher types. Or should I say Famuly Noir. Having come from tje streets, you can't expect him to behave normal or rational. I've worked with those like him and he's right in character. Acting is solid, but if you find it a bit too depressing, well, that's life. It's amazing how quickly good lifes can go bad. Painfully enjoyable, but not something I'd revisit. Not my kind of film
