Holidate Reviews
One of my favourite holiday movies, the vulgar jokes and comments are what make it not another romcom from netflix.
For what it is I loved it and have it on repeat when I need something that I can have on in the background without having to pay too much attention on but catch the laughs. When I do pay attention, it’s actually pearl Clenching and poignant between the laughs. Great chemistry between the characters. Love the mannerisms and facial expressions of the two leads. Absolutely believable in the real world were someone in these situations. Highly recommend… but not if you don’t have a sense of humor or look too hard at finding issues with a movie. This was made to enjoy and have fun. “It’s not burnt! it’s well done!” Haha
There were some funny parts but many of the jokes came across as over the top crude and not in a funny way. I loved Kristin Chenoweth and Jessica Capshaw. The main actors were mediocre.
I don't understand the negative reviews! Funny as hell! Love this film!
Please don't waste your time with this................
I thought this movie was a classic rom com in its finest! My husband and I were laughing hysterically. Highly recommend watching with your spouse or girlfriends.
I know this movie got a lot of hate, but personally I loved it! It was basically like a hallmark movie but better. The acting was pretty good and the plot pretty original not just like any other holiday romance movie you see. Definitely recommend it!
Holidate is one of those movies that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and you shouldn’t either, but leaves you feeling cheerful and in good spirits. It’s the perfect holiday date flick, as it covers all of the major holidays and feelings of loneliness that come with it. I feel as if it could have snuck in a joke or two about lesser-celebrated holidays (arbor day anyone?) But that’s not the kind of comedy it goes for, which is also the weakest element of the whole film. As a believable romantic endeavor, Holidate succeeds just fine. For that, I recommend it.
A wonderful film that expresses every holiday and the stresses of each and every one!
This film met my low expectations and it’s bad even by Hallmark Christmas movie standards. The jokes are consistently unfunny, ranging from immature ones like poop jokes apparently aimed at children to childish, awkward jokes about bedroom behavior and a clothes-ripping-revealing-boobs-in-public-joke. Then, they’ll throw in moments where a character uses inappropriate language in front of a child, followed by “oops, sorry kids” reactions, which seem misplaced for any audience. To make up for the lack of actual adult humor, the movie uses “f***” about thirty times, even dedicating a whole joke to it, which feels forced and excessive by the end. The one slight positive is the variety of settings, which adds some unpredictability, but it doesn't do much to improve the story. The leads' plan to avoid being pitied by their families makes little sense—they admit right away they’re not romantically interested in each other, even though fake dating would have solved their problems. Plus, their first holiday together is spent at a club, with none of the family they’re trying to avoid/impress? present, except one basically irrelevant character. In the end, the film feels like a weak attempt at adult humor and offers little to enjoy. Whether it’s better or worse for failing at its own genre is debatable, but watching it was no fun.
this is a great underrated rom com Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey did a great job at being a couple love this movie watch it
I think it’s hilarious, with Emma Roberts being her usually wonderful and charismatic self, while Luke Bracey is able to give us a caring, yet at some times prudish love interest with blends perfectly with Emma Roberts’s Sloane. It’s goofy, and wonderfully campy, and is criminally underrated.
Nothing too special but if you like Emma Roberts probably still worth a watch. Not something you will remember much of a few years down the track but if you are desperate for a romance pic it will do the job.
sorry i love this 😭😭🤍 emma’s character is so cute
I love this easy rom com to comfort me. I watch this movie at least once a year around the holiday.
I agree with the consensus that this could have been a much better movie if the jokes were less crass.
This movie is so much fun.
The opening shot of this borderline unwatchable romantic comedy sees our heroine extinguish a cigarette on a plastic Santa Claus outdoor decoration while exclaiming "F**ing holidays!" One would be inclined to think, "Toto, I don't think we're in Hallmark-land anymore". However, as the end credits begin to roll, you realize that is exactly where we've been - just with more naughty words and sexual innuendo. I've said it before, a romcom is only as good as the chemistry between its lead actors - sadly Tom & Jerry had more sexual chemistry than Roberts and Bracey here. I haven't seen Roberts in that many projects, but she comes across to me as someone who has trouble projecting warmth onscreen. She has the brittle and obstinate parts down pat, but when the obligatory moments come when she is supposed to be reduced to romantic Jell-O, she doesn't have her Aunt Julia's charm and affection. As for Bracey, he's just another personality-free stud who acts like he's auditioning to become the next Hemsworth brother. The supporting cast is peppered with some familiar faces, including Capshaw from my beloved GREY'S ANATOMY, but there's not a single character here worth mentioning. Kristen Chenoweth, in particular, is saddled with a character that is such a waste of her talent that it becomes almost offensive. The humor feels forced and labored, and I literally laughed just ONE time. Let's hope this is not the type of holiday movies we can expect in 2020 - the year has been tough enough already! The good news - it can only go uphill from here, right!??!?
For me the Holidays in recent years are about keeping the blues away and lighthearted funny (and yes sometimes vulgar) humor is welcome! Plus it was nice to see the two exact places I've lived in the he Chicago area portrayed as I've experienced them (a townhouse in Logan Square and Evanston) AND it was silly but I detest when it supposed to be below freezing and they are too lazy to add in at least a CGI of what one's breath looks like in the cold - at least I saw that in the opener - watch the preview if you want a light hearted movie this is it
Emma Robert's is perfect as always.
