Between 2.5 and 3 stars. This story of an atypical relation could have been better, but it would need more depth. When you see the end, you feel it could have been much better.

Dark and heavy. I didn't enjoy it at times, but it definitely kept my interest. (First and only viewing - 9/8/2019)

Might have appreciated it better had I not gone in with the assumption that it's about the school shooting (and what leads to it; a la "Klass") instead of the after-effects. But still, the movie is quite flawed for what it is. Tries to make a social commentary which gets lost somewhere in all the melodrama. The actress playing Alicia wears too much make-up for what her character requires. Fails to generate the emotional effect it should have aimed for and ends up as a teen drama (almost leaning towards a chick flick) overall. To worsen it all, it's unnecessarily lengthy. That could have been avoided in the very least. If you're looking for A LESSON IN EVIL, this isn't the right one. Having said that all, it's not as bad as some movies I've recently watched. "Go figure" as Alicia might have said!!

Takes some disturbing and turns it into a different creature.

Following an episode of gun violence in a small town high school, outsider Alicia is practically forced to spend time and help a girl who survived the shooting while being investigated on the episode. The film also has heavy dramatic backdrops in the history of the individual characters. While it inevitably looks like the less stylised version of Gus van Sant's Elephant, and has a dull pace and a screenplay often filled with clichés, one cannot deny that it has its dramatic impact and also find the conversations between the two girls compelling and thought provoking.

This is a definite 2 1/2 star out of 5. Home Room was a reality check and informative film, with debatable, constructive thought out plans this film could of been a box office sucess. What lacked is the story. once the plot was layed out and thickened the character development pulled you away from the whole concept of the Film, making the ending scimmed and weakly pulled together. What's even more frustrating is they never really explain what happened during the shooting just alot of Heresay and never any flashbacks to help increase your imagination. There's a saying that descibes the film "there's no such thing as bad actors, but just bad scripts" that applies for Home Room.

Hard hitting and compelling!

ok film, this film hasn't got a big star list and the only two actors in it I knew were Victor Garber and Holland Taylor, I don't think I'll want the film on DVD, it was ok but expected it to be better

Picking up in the aftermath of a high school shooting, this film deals with some very controversial issue's surrounding the epidemic of school shootings and the frame of mind teens must be in to commit such horrible crimes. The story focuses on two high school girls who are on opposite ends of the social spectrum. Forced by her principal to visit academic star Deanna (Erika Christensen) who is in the hospital after a bullet grazed her scalp, cynical and guarded social outcast Alicia (Busy Philips) develops an unlikely bond with with the straight laced upper class girl from an affluent family. Along the way, their rocky friendship forces Deanna to take off her mask she puts on in school and deal with the trauma of what happened. And likewise Alicia is forced to open up old wounds from her very dark past when the police find out she was acquainted with the shooter and she mysteriously disappeared from school for over a year prior to the shooting. This film has some very solid acting that is on par with the powerful and controversial story. Very powerful film that deals with the emotional powdercake that high schools have become today with their social cliques and all the issues teens deal with today.

This was an absolutely amazing movie. Released in 2003, you can see the reference to Columbine. But what a heart stopper. Seriously? It's one of the best movies you'll see this year.

Nobody remembered her being prego?

Jan 27, 2012

With remembrance of Columbine? This is the best emotional, dramatic and suspenseful tearful movie you will see all year. I guarantee it. I was speechless at how incredible this movie was. Do NOT miss this one.

great story, easy to relate to characters. not a lot of legal junk, but focuses more on the value of friendship and truth.

This movie was okay but definitely not one of my favorites. The way the description was worded made it seem like the movie was more like a CSI movie than a relationship movie.

Really different, overall it was decent, not something I would buy. But worth the watch.

The film starts with a school shooting and as the police investigate, they look into one student. This film isn't about the school shooting it goes so much deeper. If you can get pass the cheesy one liners and the occasionally over dramatization, this film brilliantly well done. The performances of all the actors was exceptional. Don't miss this film. www.what-to-watch.com
