Hotel Artemis Reviews

Dec 23, 2024

It's a favorite movie of mine when it comes to Dave Bautista! And Jodie Foster just adds to it in a big way.

The acting is fine and some of the sets quite nice. But I found the character arcs and back stories a bit of a drag. The story lacked tension. Also a bore to see another superwoman wipe out a corridor full of fighting men. Just makes everything feel a bit silly.

Unforgivably bad. You have a great cast, and you waste them. No one has a decent backstory, no character is really fleshed out - even Nurse is pretty 1 dimensional. They could have done a Clue/whodoneit, but no, there are a bunch of independent storylines that barely touch (this might have made for a good anthology series, but not in a single movie). And worst of all, the titular hotel gets only the briefest of explanation, the most important of which is 'there are rules', which EVERY CHARACTER proceeds to break in the course of the evening! So WHY should we care about this 'special' hotel, when it was glaringly shown up by a Keanu Reeves gunkata movie??? Now, you COULD have glossed over all this by making it overly stylized ala Sin City, but this thing is as vanilla as they come, replete with boring dialogue and even the stupid retro blinking fluorescent lights. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Everything is implied. No interesting or necessary information disclosed below surface level about each character. What’s the riot about, when did it start, how wide spread is it? Why is there a mob boss, how long has the mob been going on? Why mention the mob family members when only two are shown? Why continue to show a young dead kid flash back throughout when it’s unnecessary to the plot (okay she bawled about missing him but then a half hour later is over the death of him?). Bautista has no character story. Nurse has barely excusable story. Boss had no excusable story. Boss son, same. “Business” woman, same. “Professional” and his brother and their history, same. What a waste of my Sunday night.

Nothing outstanding but still a good time at the movies, Hotel Artemis is a solid, albeit uninspired action thriller with bursts of comedy that hit more often than not. What sells the movie though, is the stacked and game cast that bring the characters to life in what feels like a rushed plot. The movie should've been longer, allowing a more thoughtful approach to bringing the titular hotel to life, but it's still good.

It's a John Carpenter B Movie type plot along the lines of Assault on Pricent 13 but a complete mess. The music is isn't bad and Sterling Brown gives a decent performance and is probably the best actor in this. Everyone else is just very ok. No one has any chemistry or is that likeable. There are too many characters in this as well. The cinematography is terrible and is completely lifeless and so dark you can barely see it for well over most of the runtime. It's well framed and some good set design but it really doesn't count for much if you can't see it. The editing isn't good. Foster is the main character (I think) but we jump around so much with unneeded side plots that don't amount to anything. The plot goes along the lines of she runs a underground criminal clinic...and stuff just happens. It never builds any suspense or any clear purpose because it never ties all these events together and jumps around terribly. This leads to a terrible lifeless, boring, and quite confusing pacing. If you removed any one of these side plots like the crew robbery opening scene which is the best part of the movie, nothing would be lost. Skip this completely even your a Foster fan.

It was ok. I've liked Dave Bautista in every movie and this one is no different. Whoa Jodie Foster is looking pretty rough these days. I'd never want to watch it again.

Hotel Artemis is a disappointing film. It is about a nurse who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals. Sterling K. Brown and Jodie Foster give horrible performances. The script is badly written. Drew Pearce did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.

A very underrated movie for some reason. I saw it for the first time with my dad, and I thought it was incredible. I watched it again this year and thought it was a great movie. Good performances, moderate and realistic violence, actors who give their all, good action scenes and a quite dramatic and good story. Highly recommended

I enjoyed the different take on a crime drama. Bautista's character is interesting. I enjoy the action scenes. Hopefully this will be a cult classic

The acting was great and so were the characters. Can't ever say enough about Jodie Foster, very cool character you root for. The kind-of-futuristic things in the movie were interesting enough and the action sequences were decent. Sure, the story isn't great and there are some technical issues but it was a fun movie and I think the actors did a great job holding it together. Yes, it could have been way better but somewhere with writing, editing, directing, they messed up. Performances worth a watch though. Goldblum was under utilized but hey it is what it is.

Sure - it's got some predictable/tropey bits, but come on - it's got Jodie Foster. The script has some really tight, effective moments, and Jodie Foster and Dave Bautista share the frame multiple times, which is fun enough in and of itself. It's got a lot going for it - I do not understand why it's rated so low. Not a masterpiece, but it's good fun.

An intriguing opening with vast potential led to a dizzying denouement with nothing answered, gained, or fulfilled. Long story short, a vapid collection of out-of-touch writers succeeded in glorifying the inherent privilege of the wealthy without as much as a nod to the humanity owed to the populace. This movie made me search for ways to financially support the Orcas that are currently bashing the hulls of yachts over the European coast.

loved it. an original idea.

There seems to be nothing that can't be improved and elevated by Jodie Foster!

A movie that had so many colorful characters and different plot lines that surprisingly left me unsatisfied at the end of the day.

People who wears sunglasses indoor makes me puukke. If you're naturally cool you don't need to wear them. Larry of the 3 stooges wouldn't have looked any cooler wearing Prada shoes. So when I saw Jeff Goldblum wearing sunglasses in a cage I knew it's a lousy movie so I didn't even bother to open it. The one star is for Jody Foster.

Really very nice action movie that entertains very well. Beautiful setting of the dystopian world that makes it well even if only on the outside while the whole film is shot inside the hotel. The action scenes are really cool and the twists are valid

2.5 stars. I've seen far worse movies than this. Jodie Foster has come a long way from Silence of the Lambs. But this was not one of her finest roles. It's a budget movie so don't expect much.
