House of Darkness Reviews
A slow-burner that’s simply okay with one too many lulls and an ending that is rather abrupt and does not surprise in the least.
Horrible and a waste of time. Storyline sucked. Takes forever and goes nowhere.
Man thinks he’s got lucky,, oh they are obviously vampires, talk bollocks for hour and 25 mins, oh they are vampires, vampires kill man who’s not so lucky… glad I’m drunk
I looooove Justin. I even love them together IRL. Man, this movie was absolutely awful. I don't normally post reviews but damn this went nowhere. It was just stupid ass talking the whole movie. The ending was so lame. I would rather watch the new (awful) Jeepers creepers 3 again than this. Drag me to Hell, Barbarian etc etc... all so good. This was just awful.
This was surprisingly better than what I thought it’d be. You can look at the critical versus audience scores and immediately glean that people who watch and interpret movies for a living tended to have a higher opinion of this than did the random smattering of average wanks who probably likely only created an RT account out of red-faced rage to rant and drool about how upset the latest “woke” movie coming out of “Hollyweird” is. There seems to be a lot of improv dialogue in this, and due to this, the conversations are extremely realistic but also very uncomfortable and awkward: jokes which you’d hear in a bar right before you’d groan at them, transparently obvious lines followed quickly by an excuse or denial to pretend they didn’t mean what they *obviously* meant… that sort of thing. It’s not terribly hard to predict, but this movie didn’t astound based on its shock-value. It instead made itself interesting by telling you what it thought and testing to see if you have the resolve to also arrive at the same conclusion(s). And apparently, only about 1-out-of-every-5 audience members *did* have that resolve.
Terribly slow and boring and then it ended. An hour and a half I’ll never get back!
One reason and one reason only it's getting trashed - and it isn't that "things are telegraphed too early…" All of the people saying that stupid dribble *LOVE* that there are 27 ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street' movies despite all being "telegraphed" by the first film's 90-second trailer. The setting is good, the dialogue is so painfully realistic that everyone I talked with insisted that it had to be largely improvised or changed from shot to shot; and if the "commentary" bothers you, then ask yourself what commentary the ‘Friday the 13th' movies offer beyond Reaganomics and "the kids are acting up and are going to kill themselves with The Pot."
Average. The dialogue was awkward on purpose. The ending is telegraphed pretty much 10 minutes into it but it was still entertaining enough. Would've worked better with no name actors and as an arthouse film that dug into the lore.
Wow. This was so boring! Literally just…dialogue. Just the dude babbling on about nothing. No action. No suspense. No nothing!
1 and a half hour movie and its literally all talking. No suspense, no scare, no "WTF is going to happen next". Nothing keeping you on the edge of your seat. You can literally predict the end of the movie by noticing 1 character leaves while another character entertains. Its literally an hour of the guy character rambling on about nonsense. Don't waste your time just watch another movie. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
Just for funsies, I decided to watch the very first movie that popped up on the Hulu menu. Big mistake. Huge! Never again. This is a realllllyyyy bad movie, perhaps the most boring horror movie I've ever watched. It was rather shocking. Every ten minutes, I kept thinking these people had to shut up for a minute and let some action begin. It doesn't happen until the last few minutes. I am not exaggerating. This is literally 95% people sitting around talking and 5% of the worst horror effects ever created. It's a very muddled experience - without giving anything away, I'll just say I never could get a grasp on what was going on, even though they spend what feels like hours talking about it. The creation of Long's character is also not successful - I'm not sure whether it's a failure of performance or writing or both. Director LaBute is also a noted playwright which explains the incessant jabber here. This managed a 59% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For the life of me, I can't understand how. If you want some background noise while taking a nap, this is the movie for you!
This movie was painful to watch. The jibberish of talk throughout felt like ad lib than a script. I will never get that 90 minutes of my life back. 🙄🙄🙄
Nothing happens until the last 10 minutes of the movie, and it's exactly what you think is going to happen.
Boring AF. Hulu labeled this is a thriller. Wtf???
Horror star Justin Long enters a house but not just any house This one is full of secrets and evil Directed by Neil Labute Long co-stars next to Kate Bosworth They both play Hap and Mina just coming back from a night on the town Driving up to her mansion they decide to get more acquainted with each other But as the night progresses Hap is feeling uneasy and afraid how things are developing because of Mina's dark intentions and he keeps hearing and seeing things in the shadows What is she planning? Is it a game? Murder? Or something more supernatural based? A majority of this is locked to one room with a fireplace just on these two so keep that in mind There's virtually no music too Labute relies on the performances and chemistry of these two Plus the stories Mina ends up sharing pretty much sum up her entire life story but left ambiguous in nature There are much better takes on sexual mores believe me but the payoff here is worth it For most it'll be a slog to get to the reveal but the patience is well warranted Yes some of the political stances feel a bit off and it might come off as more of a predictable stage play but Justin Long and Kate Bosworth light up the screen with their battle of the sexes subtext This is a subtle dark comedy that thankfully doesn't go all out and it'll please fans knowing it hearkens back to a familiar horror story Truly feels like a decently written 'Tales from the Crypt' or 'Twilight Zone' episode taking a sting on male privilege finding edgy accommodation from a vindictive sisterhood It's this year's 'Invisible Man' if that's giving it a compliment
A movie of little substance, Nothing unpredictable or of any interest happens in its entirety. I'm not sure who it was even made for, I do my best to consider someone else's point of view or personal taste but I really can't imagine someone spending 90 minutes watching this and feeling satisfied by the end. Acting was perfectly fine but unfortunately the actors weren't given much to work with, truly disappointing
The movie felt like it was building to something interesting but instead just telegraphed its ending the entire movie. Give it 2 stars only because the acting was fine and I made it through the whole movie instead of shutting it off. Then took away half a star because I should have shut it off.
This had a movies worth of build up banter only to lead you to an outcome ending that was totally obvious and known the whole time. The acting was good and what cause me to watch the whole thing. possible spoiler alert, idea below ...................................................... How much cooler of a flim would this have been instead of the girls just being vampires and killing the guy, (which was obvious the whole time) Having the guy reveal last minute he is a vampire killer. Now that would have been a surprise twist and made the whole films werid banter justified.. Unfortunately that is not what happens in this movie. Thereby making it VERY predicable and kinda dumb with really good acting.
This is the WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER WATCHED. Drags on and on for absolutely no reason, the plot does not tie together is any way what so ever, acting is horrible. Please go watch paint dry or grass grow instead of watching this total waste of 2 hours of your life
