House of Wax Reviews
Definitely one of my favorite horror films!!!
House of Wax is a mixed bag of thrills, atmosphere, and flaws. The movie starts off slow, spending time introducing the characters, but it never quite succeeds in making them relatable or compelling. The transition to the second act comes far too late and shifts abruptly from 0 to 100 in just a few scenes, which makes the pacing feel uneven. The acting is decent, but it's held back by a poorly written script that doesn't give the cast much to work with. The direction is serviceable, but even the best efforts can't fully overcome the script's shortcomings. What stands out is the cinematography and production design. The camera work, especially in the wax museum, is surprisingly effective, subtly building tension and adding to the eerie atmosphere. The visuals during the film's finale is a highlight to the impressive production design. Overall, House of Wax isn't a bad watch if you're in the mood for a campy horror experience with some strong visuals. However, the uneven pacing, shallow characters, and lackluster script keep it from being truly memorable.
Honestly a maybe a little cheeky here and there but for the most part I really liked this movie! Creepy and loved the main 2 characters!! Definitely worth a watch
Great writing. Mediocre cinematography. Bad acting. I've seen worse acting, but there are no performances to write home about. Jared Padalecki was a highlight, but even he did not give a performance that is gonna change anyone's life. He did not get much screen time, so Supernatural fans could take a pass on this one. All that being said, there were a few moments that made this worth it: * Twin tropes. Couple of cheeky scenes ham this up from a few angles for some good fun * Super corny shot of someone getting speared through the head * Paris Hilton does a strip tease (<30 secs to be honest) I watch a lot of bad (horror) movies for fun. I will not be watching this one again.
A great 2000's slasher film, A great cast too, I have it on DVD too, I watched this movie so many times, I lost count lol, I love this movie when I was growing up, Lol Cinemax played this movie every time, I kinda wished we got a sequel, But I don't think it needs a sequel, I never saw the 1953 vincent price house of wax, I need to check that one out, It's 2024 and this movie is still good.
As distastefully gruesome like any unpleasant slasher flicks, your average horror remake under modernized service and subpar energy, aside from Chad Michael Murray’s grit, has a creepy grip that ideally captures the attraction’s uncanny valley with a shock value to boot, amidst an impressive production lore setting that may have added to general discomfort. (B-)
I give it a bit of credit. they didn't just try to do a shot for shot remake with the same characters of the 53' one. There is an actual attempt of doing a completely new take on the material. So much so, it doesn't resemble its predecessor at all. Different era, characters, and take. It's like if someone took the 53' one and mixed it with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you'd get this. Everything is alright about it but man when this does find it stride it's pretty unsettling and interesting to watch. When it focuses on them in the wax town and getting hunted it's at it's best and kind of good. The gore is really good in this as well and very disturbing. There isn't THAT many jumpscares either. The setting is original, the villains aren't bad, kills are pretty decent especially Wade, and again when it finds it's stride at points its pretty good. Problem is for everything good, there is something not. The ending is kind of cool but instead of being creepy it becomes an action movie almost out of nowhere which really doesn't fit the tone of everything else despite being a pretty cool idea. The worst parts are the opening 15 minutes when there all being the stereotypical unlikeable late 90's-00's teens who are so unlikeable with handheld cam. It's easily the worst part and is terrible. Also, in the second half when Paris Hilton takes over as the main focus, it tanks and can't keep the goodwill and momentum it had going with the others. It feels a bit pointless and should've just stayed focused on the main girl. Direction is pretty hit or miss at times also. This needed to stay focused and cut all other scenes with the other friend group especially Hilton, make the character more likeable in the start, less of a action type ending and more suspense/horror, and more consistent direction. If your a DIE HARD fan of the texas Chainsaw series I would say give this a try possibly. It's so different from the Price one it's not comparable. Most could probably skip this. Ironically enough, THIS version posssibly should get a remake. There's lots of potential here to do this right.
I don't know why this has such a low rating. This is an original classic horror movie in my opinion that I have watched several times and even own the DVD.
Although forgettable when it comes down to remakes I found House Of Wax to be a fine way to pass 90 or so minutes.
Paris has better performances on her sex tapes
To be quite honest, this movie wasn’t as bad as people make it to be. I liked the plot, the characters and their personalities. I honestly don’t have much to say but I only watched this movie because mcr is playing in the ending credits.
Justo, é um filme mediano, a temática é legal mas a história é bem meia boca, tem seus pontos altos mas as vezes você questiona a decisão que os personagens tomam no decorrer do filme.
Hadn't seen this for way over a decade but a decent mid level horror film with bland characters but a good premise and some good payoff
Another guilty pleasure! House of Wax offers some creepy thrills, but it relies heavily on horror clichés and underdeveloped characters. While it’s entertaining, it doesn’t quite measure up to the impact of the original film.
Paris Hilton is the best part of this movie. But. Whatever.
Well, I'll let you know: The House of Wax is not bad, yes the script is rubbish but the story catches you in the 25 minutes of the film
Above average some jumpscares here and there 7/10
House of Wax is a decent horror film with a unique premise and some good scares. The movie has a solid cast and engaging storyline. However, it can be a bit predictable at times and the character development is lacking. Overall, it's an entertaining watch if you enjoy slasher films, but it doesn't quite reach the level of a must-see classic.
