Hunter Hunter Reviews
If there's nothing else on, give it a try. Cannot recommend.
Absolutely fire movie, all there is to say
Amazing. Slow burn that I was never bored with. The ending. wowzers in my trousers. 4.5
An incredible edge of your seat. The music in the end really grabbed me. Pure definition of evil. A real close look on how we can dine in pain after we are traumatized. The acting and cinematography is extraordinary and this one kept me guessing.
Solid indie horror flick. Most of the positive reviews are spot on. I will just comment on one of the negative criticisms i've come across in the audience reviews that the movie stretches credibility in some of the actions the characters take, specifically *SPOILER ALERT* that the dad, once he comes across the serial killer's den, doesn't tell his family and promptly whisks them away to safety. That he doesn't do this, fits perfectly with the character's world view. First, he mentions that he doesn't want to get the local authorities involved when the wife asks him to help capture the wolf. He implies he doesn't want them in their business because they might interfere with their way of life. Second, he pointedly states he never finished school, implying that even if he's an expert woodsman, he's probably not that bright. Third, he also reveals he occasionally keeps things from her so she doesn't get upset. This point is driven home when she shows him the flyer for a house for sale in the city. Telling her about a den of dead women's bodies would only conflate her desire to get the hell out of their and leave the only way of life he's ever known.
Slow-paced, predictable, and very bleak
An absolute banger of a movie. I swear like anyone who complains about lack of realism in this movie spends too much time on reddit playing out hypotheticals about what they’d do in whatever situation and not enough time outside. The characters are great and not the typical 2D like horror robot people. Loved this so much i typed up a summary for my girlfriend when i finished watching it lol to ask her what she thought. Ps. I feel like the guy at the end when i wake up every morning
Brutal, terse movie with a small focused cast. Even the exact lack of explicit motive of the serial killer - and it's no spoiler that there's one - and his knowledge that the hunter was looking for a wolf don't harm the dynamics of this intense film, though there is one enormous loop hole: what exactly happened when serial killer met hunter? It's a bonus that the locations are beautiful.
Wonderful. Pure horror burning itself into your soul because of its relentless realism.
Terrible movie. The plot is unartistic in the character building, everything is a lengthy burden to even spend more than 5minutes on. Do yourself a favor if you're looking for any excitement or climax or thrills or substance this isn't the movie for you.
Original & Intense! Great story & acting. Go in knowing as little as possible. Highly recommend!
This movie is a slow burn, but the last 15 minutes of this movie are super intense and will keep you engaged
Good movie. Starts off as a slow burn, but not so slow that you lose interest. Sawa is a seriously underrated actor in my opinion. The twist in this movie because apparent towards the end and it's a good one and the last 10 or so minutes are in your face and will shock you if you're not expecting it. 3.5 stars because although I did enjoy this movie quite a bit, I feel like the first half of it was a tension build (as it should be) and then it takes a turn, slows down for a minute and then all of the action comes on at once. It's in your face and rushed. Still a good movie, I feel like the latter half should have been played out more.
A fairly adequate wilderness thriller despite being on the slower side, kept waitiing for something to happen to accelerate things and nothing did. Too much time on the conflict with wolves, bears and deers; not enough on the human conflict. Nice ending.
Pretty boring movie and hard to get into
Without a star studded cast, they did it! Really good movie, especially for those that like the outdoors. Couldn't wait to see what happens in the end. Highly recommended!
3.5 stars; This movie was like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates. I got way more than I expected from it. I thought it was going to be a 'Survival' movie. It sure started that way. It had a family (parents and dsughter) escaping civilization and living off the land in the backwoods. It quickly turned into a predator movie with a vicous wolf stalking them It then morphed into a 'Crime Mystery" movie when a stranger showed up in the middle of the woods after being attacked. An element of fear is added because the father has gone off to hunt the wolf, leaving only the mother and daughter with this stranger. I was impressed with the neat concept of evolving a movie hrough the types of plots. BUT, I was not ready for one of the most horrific shocking endings to a movie I've ever seen. The acting was okay. But the star was the menacing music that amplified the tension throughout the movie. It turns out that the less you know about this movie going into it, the more you are affected by it.
It's rare to finish a movie and say "holy shit!" The second the credit roll. This movie seems like one thing at the beginning and becomes a different thing later. Like all thrillers, the less you read about it, the better.
Totally boring! Folding underwear is more entertaining.
Set in a remote Canadian forest, Hunter Hunter was off to a good start. Once we established the main characters and some superfluous financial conflict with fantastic directing, the main conflict was revealed. Things started to fall apart soon after. The savvy trapper and his robust family, who are presumably used to living around the native predators and communicating effectively to survive, seem to have forgotten all that. The gross incompetence usually shown by the trope of horror movie victims was rapidly adopted by the family. Somehow they made every little occurrence turn into "a thing." They lie to each other about what is going on. They abandon the basics of navigating an encounter with a predator. Things they should know they apparently never learned. Suddenly the mystery of their financial struggles is superseded by the mystery of how they even survived in the first place. The effects were well executed. The acting was natural and convincing. The writing was as shot through with holes as swiss cheese. There was no immersion; just a chafing suspense about when these mind-numb people will finally perform their fatal blunder. The one thing that each of them can do well is dig through animal poo. And that's the sort of feeling you are left with at the end of this movie.
