This might sound a little mad, it feels like a Western in some places; kinda like Hang 'Em High (1968) only with, you know, werewolves.

I Am Lisa at the very least manages to make yet another case for why women, and indeed queer folk, should be front and center in horror - the stories are more compelling, more complex, and demonstrably more entertaining too.

Alright, look, YES this sounds ridiculous - and it is! But, if you lean into that, you'll enjoy it. I appreciate the skillful use of practical F/X, and you know I'm always here for empowering, female-led horror.

It's a werewolf film on a budget, but the good storytelling and strong acting shines through. The movie also does well by not falling into the same trappings of other revenge horror films.

One comes away from this deliciously atmospheric, intellectually nimble excursion into lycanthropy, wildly entertained and not a little challenged about human nature.

The acting by lead actress Vaganos is something that not only sells the story and its horror, but also brings the viewer in so that they can be truly invested by the time the film gets to its main point.

While I Am Lisa is a bit rough around the edges, I found myself oddly mesmerized by this micro-budget revenge tale for the most part.
