I Saw the Light Reviews
Watched this on a plane. Loved Hiddleston actually singing the vocals. Really interesting insight into Williams which I had not previously delved into Since watching this I’ve played him more and more and have been up close and personal with his suits and guitars in the Ryman and the country hall of fame in Nashville. All on the back of seeing this movie. If you are a real fan of music and its history. Watch I saw the light
I loved this movie. Partly because of hiddleston and Olsen, but I loved the story it told. The plot is easily remembered, but tbe movie is a good one!
From a friend, I first heard of Hank Williams's songs and I had a liking to the country style and its simplistic words that entertained me with fun and love. When I was watching this film, Hank had an interesting, yet depressing life. I liked the cast because of the chemistry that they were able to show in the film. My complaint was that Tom Hiddleston was a little too old for this role, even though I commend his efforts in presenting this country legend. The likeliness of the voices do not necessarily match up, but nonetheless was average with enhancing the musical aspects that Hank Williams had.
It was nice to hear his music again, but the movie itself had no depth. Thought I might get an insight into his alcoholism, but nothing. Sad story of a short talented life.
Though the actors deliver a great effort and many scenes are beautifully filmed, the movie lacks any energy. The story of Hank Williams deserved better.
Over all a decent movie. Really good acting. I had a problem with the music 🎶 though. I used to listen to Hank Williams greatest hits when I was a kid. The thing is Hank was a very unique singer with a special gift. That is why he was so famous and sold all those records. Although the actor did an ok job at singing, it was just ok. He has a higher pitched voice than Hank and I felt this hurt the film. If you had never heard of Hank Williams you would probably be wondering what was so special about this guy? Unfortunately in the movie, all the Hank singing came off like a typical bar band doing Hank songs. It did not have the special emotional quality of the real Hank, and I think that hurt the movie.. They should have used original recordings.
this film is indeed a waste of time, especially for tom hiddleston and elizabeth olsen who were featured in better films, such as infinity war
Although I like Hank William's music. This movie was horrid. It didn't flow well. It would go from him drinking to him sober then back to him drinking again. No reasons given. And his relationships were weird. Avoid this one.
I am a huge Hank Williams fan. I read the book " I Saw the Light" and that depicts Hank in a more negative light. The biggest disappointment is that the story was about 80% of the troubled relationship between Hank and Audrey. There was very little about early life or how he started writing. Although I have read perhaps there was a bit more help with Hank's writing, even non- fans can't help but acknowledge the man was an amazingly talented song writer. He was so prolific! He would have been even if he lived another 59 years. That is fascinating, more so than the "marriage" of he and Audrey.
As a huge fan of the music and the cast, I loved it. While no one can truly do Hank's songs justice, Tom Hiddleston 's unique style allows a familiar tune to still feel brand new.
The performances are much better than I expected given the critical response, but they can't rescue the screenplay. The only good music biopic trope, "songwriter has an experience that directly informs the idea for their most famous song," is not present. Every other biopic trope is here, in a very paint-by-numbers way, and very static throughout the movie.
I enjoyed this one and the great job that Tom Hiddleston did at giving us a look into the life & times of legendary country singer Hank Williams
really well done film. Tom Hiddleston is especially good. It is also enjoyable for those of us who have no interest in country music. Olsen is also darn good.
Excellent performances by Hiddleston, Olsen, and all the supporting cast, but unfortunately the script was dull and the directing even worse. If the film itself had been better the actors would probably all have won Oscars. Such a shame.
Compelling acting on all sides, however the plot was jumpy and at times boring. A meaningful movie that affected me emotionally.
Amazing movie. I loved it and I can't understand the reason why it was so underestimated by the critics. Moving and enjoying the same time, left me amazed at the end. All the actors play wonderfully and the music touched my heart.
It was tragic and bland, but I enjoyed learning about the great singer and hope to become more familiar with his music.
