The Illusionist Reviews
This film is beautifully filmed and has a magic quality about it . The only part of it that didn't sit well with me is that the illusions were not at all possible . The orange tree and the young boy walking through the theatre just couldn't have been done . I would have enjoyed seeing real life ' illusions ' that would have grounded the film in reality . However , it is a very wonderful film with a perfect cast and wonderful direction
I’m kind of a sucker for magician movies for some reason. There’s something about the mystery and the intrigue of it all, knowing that there’s eventually gonna be a big reveal with a smug, look-how-smart-I-am attitude while the audiences, both at the real-life cinema and within the film, stare in amazement. I’ll say that this was not my favorite magician movie (The Prestige holds that, well, prestige) but it’s still pretty good. Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti provide most of the charm, though Rufus Sewell provides a nice change of pace with his arrogance and outbursts. The mystery isn’t crafted quite as well as I would have liked, as I personally found the reveal to be somewhat obvious, at least as a whole, if not in the details. Regardless, it provides an engrossing experience that’s sure to entertain.
Engrossing, enchanting and really quite captivating, the Illusionist is a wonderful tale that is well written with first rate acting and directing.
Nothing to see here. Just a love triangle that goes bad and unexplained magic . Paul Giamati basically carries the whole movie.
This is one of the very best movies I've seen in a long time. It's superb acting with Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton, not surprising. This is a well written film with many unexpected twists and turns and a surprising ending. Make sure you watch to the very end and pay attention. I highly recommend this one. I wish I'd known about it earlier.
Excellent casting, acting, direction, and pace. Edward Norton's acting is simply superb in everything he tackles, and this film is no exception. 5+ stars.
Mildly entertaining - rather underwhelming. Disappointing end, was rather vague as to be what actually happened as an ending but also a lap in character writing as surely the detective would have been more grief straitened at realising the crowned prince would have been correct and also that he killed himself because the detective made a mess.
Really well made and entertaining, definitely holds your attention throughout. Knocked off half a start because its rather far-fetched. But I was riveted and could not turn away, start to finish.
Enjoyable! I did figure it out right away though unfolded very well. When she died, nope, he's a master illusionist. No slow spots. I kept going by this because I didn't think it could beat The Prestige. It was a great movie. Genius! Probably watch it again tomarrow.
My favorite movie about dark period drama love story. Beautiful soundtrack.
Is a masterpiece. Good to watch on a Saturday afternoon.
A masterpiece in the dance of magic cinema and definitely a film with a very good plot twist!
I love this movie so much. Just a true piece of entertaining and original art. Better than the highly acclaimed The Prestige in my opinion. Outstanding roles played by Giamatti, Norton, and the villain actor who is well known but can't remember his name. Coming back to watch it after almost 20 years it's even better than I remembered compared to most movies these days. It's a perfect example of character development and making us root for the protagonist and hate the antagonist through storytelling rather than lengthy exposition, backgrounds, etc. Essentially this movie "shows" the viewer rather than "tells" the viewer. More writers should take note.
The final twist is too cute and forgets that murder victims always are autopsied.
Love this movie. Great story, keeps you interested with every scene. incredible acting.
The film is well-written, and the camera work is excellent. Not boring in any spots, nor over-reaching either. Nice piece of work.
When your movie is pitted against cut-throats like Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman -- in the magic-themed movie "The Prestige" that came out just weeks after "The Illusionist -- you had better bring a bigger bag of tricks.
It was an absolutely amazing movie! I could watch it every day!
All, the story, the photo, the acting is very good. The surprising end was "the sugar on top"
Não me canso de assistir esse filme. Uma ótima história, com todos os ganchos explicados ao fim.
