In Bruges Reviews
Featuring witty dialogue, committed performances, and a dash of humor, In Bruges is a low-level gangster flick delivered with dark comedic effect. The characterization is top-notch, allowing you to sympathize with the two leads, even though they're hitmen. Additionally, the film's fairy tale-like setting serves as a perfect juxtaposition to the violent events that unfold.
Usually I review horror movies, but I also quite like dark comedies and crime thrillers. So I'll review this. This is an absolutely fantastic movie. It's well written, blends dark and light well and is quite funny. Let's begin. The characters of Ken and Ray are effective and one of the movie's highlights. They have a lot of natural chemistry, with Ken loving Bruges's culture and Ray being bored out of his mind. This dynamic also makes the ending more dramatic and dark, because we've established their bond, and Ken has to kill Ray. It's a great plan that works well. Also, the blend of comedy and triller aspects is done well. You have dark thriller aspects at points in the film, like the ending with the fight between Harry and Ray, as well as Harry's general character, but you also have comedic moments like Ray and Harry planning their fight and Harry talking to his wife. It's a blend that shouldn't work, and yet it does. Overall, it's an amazing blend of dark comedy and thriller elements. All around great film.
Laugh out loud funny. Farrell's and Gleeson's comedic timing are impeccable. The plot stretched credulity too far, but it was worth it as a vehicle for the acting.
'In Bruges' is a film that I was expecting to like. Unfortunately, it's one I was underwhelmed by. We were clearly on to a good thing with Martin McDonagh, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson (see: 'The Banshees of Inisherin') but I didn't enjoy them on this occasion. There are glimpses of it working and there are still a couple of moments where I could see myself liking it. I will say that the final 30 minutes or so is better, though what precedes does the damage in my opinion. The humour is its biggest fault, only one or two jokes got me. Farrell and Gleeson are, nevertheless, a solid pairing, as we see to far greater effect with that 2022 film. The latter is the stand out here, Farrell's character is a bit too irritating for my liking. Away from them, Ralph Fiennes is decent, his distracting accent is bad though. Elsewhere on the cast, there are not one but two stars from 'The Walking Dead' universe in this - from differing spin-offs, interestingly. Clémence Poésy of 'Daryl Dixon' (great in that, fwiw) and Željko Ivanek of 'Dead City'. Love me some TWD. I also love McDonagh's other work in 'The Banshees of Inisherin' and, especially, 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'. So I guess one was gonna be a miss at some point, fingers crossed I enjoy 2012's 'Seven Psychopaths'.
There are not many films I will sit through and rewatch, this is one of them. It takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and despite the main characters nefarious jobs which led to a child being killed, you still can't help feel for Farrels character. Dark, a little twisted and hilarious a bloody good film.
I consider In Bruges almost the perfect film. It has the perfect cast, with a mixture of incredibly funny and incredibly sad moments.
Brilliant on it's day but now very dated
This was pretty decent. A great score, and some strong emotionality and sentimentality make for more than surface level viewing. Loses points for being rather dumb/predictable at times and more or less un-unique plot wise. A decent "not Christmas" Christmas watch.
Superb dark comedy. Great performances and for me a beautiful, haunting theme tune.
Forgiveness Honesty Appreciation of beauty and excellence
In Bruges saw it in 2008 and absolutely loved the film. On Facebook have an In Bruges Facebook Film group started in 2016. We called it (In Bruges 2008 Film Martin Mcdonagh Colin Farrell Brendan Gleeson) and have Eric Godon (Yuri), Mark Donovan (American) and have crew members from the film. We asked them to join and they like the group. Martin McDonagh went to Bruges which gave him the idea for the film. Well since 2013 have gone to Bruges 8 times. And absolutely love Bruges it has everything. Back to the film Colin Farrell as Ray and Brendan Gleeson as Ken give magnificent performances and should have been Oscar nominated for me. The script from Martin Mcdonagh is absolutely brilliant and you would never have thought this was his 1st film he was Directing. Eric Godon as Yuri and Ralph Fiennes as Harry as normal is outstanding. And backed up by all the cast give very good performances.
Cool film. The ending messed it up for me, though. I could see where it was going, but it didn't work. Ralph Fiennes' character came out of character to be so publicly irrational and unhinged. That didn't make sense. It makes his character less mythical, and more like a hoodlum.
pitch dark humor, deftly written. not an easy task.
Colin looks very handsome here
It is an interesting adventure film
I really liked the characters and actions of the actors
there is a love scene in this movie, i liked this scene. He used to meet a girl who was traveling during that time when he needed to escape. and a relationship developed between them. It was also an interesting movie
