Indecent Proposal Reviews
The film is based on Jack Engelhard's novel (published in 1988) of the same name. Starring Robert Redford, Woody Harrelson, and Demi Moore. The plot revolves around two recently married college sweethearts, Woody and Demi, who are in financial problems until they encounter a billionaire handsome Redford in a casino. Redford is captivated by Demi's beauty and offers to spend the night with her in exchange for one million dollars. After considering the offer to pay debts, money, and finance the house, the couple accepts it, but envy, remorse, and distrust soon follow. I'm not endorsing the plot, which, as the title implies, is indecent, and which film critics clearly overlook, since the film's title dismisses the subject as immoral. But do these film critics use the same reasoning and principles when they award glowing scores to superhero flicks and Halloween slasher films? Demi, Robert, and Woody all delivered excellent performances, even if we disagree with the probability of the couple's experiences in the film. However, the movie offers insight on what causes quick judgments to lead to the destruction of trust.
Watched this for the first time. I always thought this movie seemed silly, but it wasn't bad. I felt bad for Woody Harrelson's character and didn't hate Robert Redford's character like I thought I would. It's entertaining and has a pretty good story too.
joey likey even though no else likey
Life sucks. Well, for some it does, for some it doesn't. But in the grand scheme of things, the general consensus is that it does. That's just the dystopic reality of the capitalistic interpretation of survival of the fittest. If you're not taking sides in this sheer 90s world, and you probably shouldn't, Indecent Proposal is actually but a decent prosal to a mere sad drama, where Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson peak.
I like this movie. Not sure why it gets bad reviews but Demi is great, Woody us too and Redford nails his role too. At times it is a little dramatic but you're never not entertained. I like it.
The first hour of this movie is great. The rest... not so good...especially considering what it could have been. But that first hour is worth the price of admission.
That's a very annoying, unlikely story!
The actual premise for the movie is quite thought-provoking, but that's about where anything interesting in this movie stops.
One of the absolute worst movies I have ever seen. I saw it with a guy I was dating at the time. It was bad enough in the theater but, having no sense of what I liked and didn't, boyfriend decided to punish me further by giving me the DVD for my birthday!
Saw it when it came out. Interesting concept. Don't cotton to the 'stars' in the cast. But I recall I liked it. So ams givinit 3 1/2 RT starsh.
One of the greatest romance/love stories ever made… More proof that the critics of rotten tomatoes are absolutely useless…
The movie could have offered a philosophical dialectic about man, but this movie really has nothing to say. Although tries to put the concept of forgiveness as his manifesto, he is not really successful in this connection, and the only memorable point of the film is the motif of the phrase "I never told you I love you".
This is more a film about trust, manipulation and morality than it is about sex. The central premise is one thing but the story is somewhat more complicated than first appears and of course there's the whole consumerist society moral angle and the whole capitalism angle too. Robert Redford is his usual suave self, right enough and Woody Harrelson also gives a good performance as the husband, David Murphy. Its perhaps a little over sentimental at times - I think it could have done without the tinkly piano music in one or two scenes, frankly, some emotional responses felt too forced on the viewer for my personal tastes but its a relatively thought provoking watch and generally its a good(ish) film. I'd recommend this film to others, esp. fans of Redford and Harrelson but if your hoping for some kind of porn film then this may disappoint because it isn't exactly full of sexual scenes, which may be a relief for some or a disappointment - I'll, obviously, leave that for you to decide. It is perhaps a bit too morality based for some as well but I thought it was, overall, a good watch. Oh and I was surprised to find Billy Connolly is in the cast too.
What if a film was just based on some old joke? You get Indecent Proposal. The acting from Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson was mediocre and felt more like they were auditioning to be in a soap opera. The writing is pathetic. This film overall is pathetic. But this film is somehow better than Body of Evidence and that is not saying much.
interesting movie, but the only good thing is the soundtrack
Would you pay $1 million to sleep with Demi Moore? Well Robert Redford certainly would, in this film at least. Such a seemingly simple premise for a movie, at first glimpse this seems like trash, but there's much fun to be had as Adrian Lyne delves into the self fulfilling moral emptiness of the early 90s. I cant think of a Redford performance that dips below terrific, and he's in full oily sleaze mode here, doing his best to calmly persuade Demi Moore and filmic husband Woody Harrelson that the proposal is anything but indecent. Having seen a lot of Richard Gere in the past week (see below) this really feels like a role written for him, but Redford makes it his own.
I personally loved the feeling I got with this movie. Watching it on 2021, from the beggining when the soundtrack starts playing and the title appears, it gave me chills and some kind of nostalgia that only movies from this period can provoque on myself. I loved the plot, though I felt the paced got considerably slower towards the middle of the movie and got stuck there. It is kind of a weird movie but I like that, also kind of deep. Loved the perfomances too
I'll admit that I came to watching this movie with relatively low expectations, just something to pass the time on. Now I feel that this movie was unfairly dumped on by the typical movie critics that I rarely trust nowadays. In no way is this flick an Academy Award Winner but it sure ain't a Razzie Nomination either. A bit cheesy in execution but still a decently done romance drama that had a plot deep enough to keep me hooked to the movie. It defines that there is no monetary value in love and putting a price on it may lead to potential ruin. I'd say this movie is good enough to see for one time.
