Infinity Pool Reviews
It´s a very nice show of wealthy tourists wreaking havoc in a foreign country, where the punishment is to them a meaningless fine. Then they leave for the people to deal with the worst of it. The final shot of the movie is beautiful, where the main character stays behind in the tropical paradise for rain season, alone, while the rest return to their normal lives like nothing has happened. It shows he actually understands the gravity of the situation and is willing to make amends by shouldering some of the responsibility. Mia Goth showing off amazing range again too
Rubbish, just doesn’t work. Save your self 2 hours.
It's original, but that doesn't mean it's good. It had some good ideas, nice concept, great acting, but when the credits roll you realize what a waste of time it was.
The film was incredibly disturbing and mind-boggling, but in the end it was an amazing movie with an intriguing premise and fantastic story. I highly recommend it for horror fans!
This movie reminds mean of a saying - "just because people don't understand you, doesn't mean you're an artist". This movie is the type of pseudo-intellectual exercise that the maker deems places him several notches above "the rest of us". Anyone who praises this movie is doing so as to not appear like they "just don't get it". It is not allegory, it is not social comment, it is not clever - it's the director making an attempt at being "deep", but it just comes out as garbage.
That movie should decide what it is! A messed up rich activity , sci fi, or gore fest? The plot stops being interesting after 20 minutes and it just goes downhill from there.
Sort of interesting premise that just becomes tedious, pretentious, incoherent and confusing - with an ending that leaves you simply asking “uh?”. So naturally it should come to the surprise of absolutely no one that the “professional” critics utterly adore it.
The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen This is by far the worst movie I have ever watched. How is it possible for a prestigious actor to be part of such a terrible film? The plot makes no sense for most of the movie, relying solely on social criticism, which isn't enough to support such a horrible film. The scenes are confusing, the dialogues are awful (if you can even call them dialogues), the performances are terrible, and the special effects are the icing on the cake, making this film the worst part of my cinematic experience.
From the family of overrated film makers, known as the Cronenbergs, comes this travesty. Featuring all the good point(s) of his more famous father—such as great cinematography and a palpable atmosphere of dread — while whole heartedly embracing all the bad points —such as ludicrous plots, an obsession with technology gone bad, not so great special effects, and trippy sequences that resemble art school films more than those of a supposedly accomplished director—-and places them center stage. Cronenberg Jr. and his film are like the AI body replicas in this grotesque slog of a body horror film…unoriginal and just not that scary, just grotesque .
Infinity Pool is, without a doubt, one of the most immersive and creative films I have ever seen. The experience of watching this film was something unique and left a deep impression on me. Brandon Cronenberg proves here that talent runs in the family, offering us a unique direction and a script full of layers to be explored. The film follows James Foster, a not-so-successful writer, played very well by Alexander Skarsgard, who, supported by his rich wife, Em, decides to stay at a paradisiacal resort in order to find inspiration for his next book. The resort is located in La Tolqa, a fictional island where the story unfolds, with beauties and customs that hide a dark and controversial secret. And it is here, in the creation of La Tolqa, that one of the high points of Cronenberg's film lies - in my opinion. The setting makes us believe that this place could really exist, with its crystal clear waters and golden sands, but the secret within it - which is the science fiction part of the film - simultaneously gives the feeling that we are exploring a separate part of the real world. I loved this! Right from the first appearance of James and Em, it is clear that their marriage is not on good terms, something that could certainly have originated from James' professional frustration. At this point, it is important to mention that his search for feeling alive and important is what motivates all his actions throughout the plot. Walking alone through the resort among the tourists, James witnesses a protest by one of the island's residents, in a scene that introduces the viewer to the conflict that exists in the region. It is also in this scene that James meets the seductive and charismatic Gabi Bauer, and this is where we enter the high point of the film, in my opinion. Mia Goth's acting is something worthy of recognition at awards shows (if they weren't irrationally prejudiced against the horror genre, she would have already earned her first nomination and, who knows, a win with the excellent Pearl). In Infinity Pool, Goth brilliantly manages to translate to the screen the duality and insanity of her character, a rich woman who finds in La Tolqa the perfect setting to unleash her most barbaric and depraved behavior, getting away with it due to the fact that she has enough money to buy her freedom. After the scene in which James runs over a local resident, it is discovered that La Tolqa has an unusual law for convicts who, like James, commit the crime of murder: the offender is sentenced by the country's authorities to the death sentence, carried out by the victim's firstborn or, when there is no such son, by the State itself. However, La Tolqa offers an unusual alternative to escape this fate: if the convict has enough money, he can choose to be cloned using a mysterious technique developed by the country and watch his clone being executed in his place. The scene in which James is prepared for the cloning process is one of the most creative and tense I have ever seen, and I simply thought Cronenberg's choice not to explain how cloning works was BRILLIANT, as this contributes even more to the film's mysterious tone. Another striking scene is the execution of James' clone, which is watched by James himself, accompanied by Em. Seeing the firstborn of the farmer killed by James kill him in an almost satisfactory way was, at the same time, shocking and extremely visceral. Due to the clones' alternative, Gabi, her husband and their eccentric friends commit the most diverse crimes. It is as if the certainty of impunity drives them to descend one more step towards insanity. This depravity also extends to the way they relate sexually to each other, which gives rise to some striking and disturbing scenes in the film. Feeling free and motivated for a long time, James lets himself be carried away by the group, committing a variety of crimes, without realizing that he was just another piece of entertainment for those rich people: even Gabi had lied about having read his book. Later, she humiliates James by reading aloud one of the reviews of his work. Cronenberg portrays the corruption that can exist in a variety of situations, and this is exemplified in the scene in which Gabi and her group pay the authorities to create another clone of James, so that they can humiliate him. After confronting his new double, James decides to run away, but the bus is intercepted on the way to the airport. Mia Goth's performance in this scene is simply SPECTACULAR. James runs away, but at the end of the film, he is forced to kill his other self, ending up in tears in Gabi's arms. The most shocking scene for me, however, was the last one, when Gabi and her friends take the bus to the airport. Sitting in the last row of seats, James listens, appalled, as the people who committed so many horrendous acts talk calmly about the most trivial topics in the world. They were going back to their normal, "boring" lives, acting normal, as if they hadn't practiced what they did in La Tolqa. This scene is AWESOME and has so many interesting layers. I could talk about this movie for hours. To sum it up, it has become one of my favorites of all time. I was unfamiliar with Brandon Cronenberg's work, and I can't wait to see what he does next. The only thing I can say for sure is this: I will watch Infinity Pool a second, third, fourth, fifth time. GREAT MOVIE!!!
I don't even know what to say, it was so bad. Pretty much one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I can't believe there are people who rated this above one star. Trust me, avoid this complete waste of of time, messed up non sense of a movie. I like the actors too, but omg, horrible.
Certainly! Here's a more professional and polished version of your review: --- "This movie was extremely disappointing and poorly executed. The plot was incoherent, and the scenes were unnecessarily graphic and distasteful. The overall direction and production quality were subpar, making it difficult to engage with or appreciate the film. I would not recommend watching this, as it fails to deliver a meaningful or enjoyable viewing experience." --- Let me know if you'd like further adjustments!
Une très bonne satire sur la décadence des "loisirs" des riches mais on retiendra surtout l'interprétation de Mia Goth qui est magistrale.
It’s a pleasure to see someone not only inherit their father’s talent but also carve out their own vision with a refined style. All of this is beautifully reflected in the film.
It was interesting enough to watch twice.
How refreshing is it to watch something so bizarre and so different. Really enjoyed this film.
Like father like son It must not be easy for Cronenberg junior to come out of daddy shadows. I'm not even sure that it's his intention at all. Maybe it's about continuity, the survival of the empire. Obviously C junior inherited a genius gene, no doubt. Movie is beautifully made, actors are outstanding. The plot is not unique - the aspiring author, beautiful wife with money, bored to death bohema pushing moral boundaries. Bla bla. What's interesting however is how C junior explores our humanity and our connection to divine. Now that is a surprise, you may think that in this "sick"movie there is no place for divine but you'll be mistaken. The urgent need for total moral annihilation, the killing of sacrificial self on the altar of humanity, the longing for safe motherly embrace, deeper than thorat, ugly sexuality-it all screems Divine with a big D. It is shameful though that little C junior doesn't allow himself to dive into divine polarity from its opposite shore. It is his world and as such it can be as dark or as light as he desires.
This film really thinks its somuch better than it is its a 30 mins short story that went on for a life time it felt
am i allowed to call the director of this movie a slur
Ponderous and a little confusing. Kafka-esque musing on how far humans will go without consequences
