The International Reviews
I really don't understand why this film has such a low rating so far. It's gripping, mostly realistic, well acted, well directed, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. And unlike 95% of Hollywood films you can't see what's coming 15-150 minutes before it happens. How can this be rated lower than any Mission Impossible film for goodness sake? I suppose maybe it's the 'unhappy' ending that some people don't like.
Good writer and director, large and high quality cast. Some questionable casting - Clive Owen is not an action star and maybe let him shave and wash once in a while? Dreary disjointed and ultimately pointless movie.
Fully agree with Daniel Q. Excellent movie and so close to being a documentary
Rotten tomatoes rated it as a preposterous plot! That's because they are owned by the same people who this film is criticizing. This movie should be on the documentary category, for precision on its plot.
Ignore the pretentious critics! This film doesn’t get the credit it deserves and nor does Clive Owen. I don’t know why critics hate him so much generally, I thought he was perfect for this role. The film is genuinely thought provoking, the cinematography is fantastic, the soundtrack is brilliant (zimmer-esc) and the location are some of the best you’ll see outside of a Bond movie. It’s been in my top ten since I saw it and I watch it at least once a year and enjoy every second everytime. I highly recommend!
Could have been great. Any movie in which the villian gets killed by someone other than the protagonist is never going to rate well. It's a let-down. And speaking of letdowns... the Naomi Watts characters, who was side by side with thee Clive Owen character for 90% of the movie... completely disappears in the penultimate act. Bizarre.
Buena puesta en escena, buena trama, buenos actores. Ya no se hacen películas entretenidas como ésta
Well-done acting, plot and execution. The scene in the museum alone is worth the price of admission.
Not sure why this rates so low. The plot isn't that far fetched as some critics have said... Banks are knee deep in dodgy debt and loans hence their transparency is poor. Clive Owen is a master of this genre, the action scenes are great, well shot in a typical north European colour (not one ray of sunshine!) Quite Bourne-esque.
Entertaining action film about two law enforcers not licensed to carry guns - one from Interpol, one from the New York DA's office - determined to bring down a corrupt international bank that peddles in (smallish) arms (of mass destruction)
Gloomy film, but that should not be considered a negative descriptor. Clive Owens is superb. Naomi Watts is a surprising casting choice, but I think she is believable, albeit somewhat forgettable. The Guggenheim shootout scene is phenomenal. Some of the "Top" Reviewers seem to want the movie to be something else. They're upset that it cannot be easily categorized. My only real negative critique of this film is that they never produced the sequel. This was a two-part series. It ends in a manner that requires the second film. Yes they wrap up some sins but the story was not over. Even the credits indicates that a second film is coming. It also includes a newspaper montage that alludes to a second film. What happened here? Bottom line, this movie is we're seeing. It's not bad at all.
Only a few action sequences…but they are worth every bit of it . It is a movie that let you understand how the world is going( if you don't already now!) Good movie!
Don't pay any attention to the audience and critics reviews on this movie. This is a beautifully shot and paced action thriller. Right from the opening scenes. The shootout at the Guggenheim museum is incredible and worth the watch alone. They actually built a duplicate set for the shootout scene, incredible. Highly recommended!
A nonsensical uninteresting script gives the great actors nothing to do.
Good action thriller with conspiracy drama based on loan debt which slaves the most vulnerable in the corrupted banking system. Bonus: traveling around the world...
A movie that suffered from a long run time and not really having a resolution at the end.
When you read the audience reviews, they read a lot better than the audience score suggests. It may have been a bit samey for its time, but after 10 months of COVID lockdown, it had worn well. Defs worth a look!
Decent conspiracy thriller. Nothing particularly standoutish, but it is better shot and acted than a standard B thriller. While the film does have action, there is more dialogue and procedural here, which I actually didn't mind. One weak spot here is that the movie just kind of ended with no real resolution.
