Into the Night Reviews
I’m don’t understand the negative reviews, but to each their own. My personal opinion is that it’s worth the watch. Kept me interested. Give this one a watch!
Super fun and funny and deeply satirical of the times (1985). Lots of subtle references to how we communicated back then, pre-internet and cell phones.
If you're Iranian American it's worth watching for the one scene where the bad Iranian guys are sitting on a couch eating pistachios and breaking gaz(Iranian nougat) with the butt of a gun...and that the director John Landis happens to be one of them. Otherwise a an awkwardly paced, surprisingly boring (despite lots of car chases) movie with sub par performances from otherwise good actors especially Goldblum who seemed to sleep through it (though to be fair his character was supposed to be half asleep). I guess that's just bad writing then.
A train wreak no matter who is involved.
In My opinion it is a good one. Really underrated!
This series is an absolute must watch! It's quite a unique storyline. Into the Night is a sci-fi thriller that will captivate you from the very beginning, consistently holding my interest throughout both seasons. In fact this is one of the only series that I've watched from start to finish in just one sitting. I highly recommend it, to say the least!
No very suspenseful, rarely funny.
So normally when I watch a movie I wait till it’s done to gather my thoughts before I send off a review of the movie. If it’s a movie I have watched before I might have a few thoughts in my mind already about how I feel. I had never watched this movie before but had heard some mixed reaction but that normally doesn’t stop me from watching almost anything. Well there is 40 minutes left in this movie and I had to stop it so I can start this review because I’m still waiting for something, anything to happen. I feel like at any moment this movie will kick in and I’ll have a blast, I have been saying that for the last 30 minutes. But anyways ill go back to it and see what happens. 40 minutes later… I kept waiting for the movie to kick into the next gear and it never did. The plot was pointless and dumb. Sure Jeff Goldblum is fine and his normal somewhat charming self and Michelle Pieiffer isn’t awful but everyone else is. Stolen jewels is supposed to be the drive for this whole movie and I just didn’t care. It was humorless and all the directors thrown in throughout the movie was so pointless. About the only thing I enjoyed was the soundtrack which was composed by Ira Newborn and featured music by B.B. King. So what have we learned? Story matters or at least how you handle the story that is. Had it handled as more thriller without the failed comedy maybe it would have worked better? I’m not sure what would have worked here but I know that it didn’t work for me the way it was. So should you see this movie? If you like offbeat 80’s movies it might work for you but for most people it might as frustrating for them as it was for me.
Jeff Goldblum's subdued quirkiness finds a soulmate in the equally offbeat and atmospheric Into the Night. The dreamlike caper features plenty of cool cameos and is directed with a pleasantly light touch by John Landis. Good, slightly dirty fun.
Interesting premise, with some great cameos throughout, but it all ends up being rather dull and drags or far too long. It's entertaining enough, but not something I'd race out to see.
Despite the problems that this comedy-thriller has it isn't without its charms or positive elements. The cast is great (with plenty of cameos throughout), the score/soundtrack is excellent (with original music by the great B.B. King), the action is solid and the plot is decent enough however I didn't find it all that funny and it is rather hollow but it is at least mostly entertaining.
Businessman has a wild night when Michelle Pfeiffer falls on his car. Jokes are forced and comedy uneven.
An early film for both Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer. It's a thriller with some humour from director John Landis. There are also many cameos including David Bowie, and also many film directors including Landis himself, David Cronnenberg, Roger Vadim, Lawrence Kasdan, Jonathan Demme, Paul Mazursky, and Amy Heckerling. Nothing special, but I found it worth watching for the leads.
John Landis film that is part romantic comedy, part action-adventure about an insomniac aerospace engineer who helps a woman who holds valuable emeralds stolen from Iran evade a group trying to recover them. Lots of cameos from well-known directors and bit parts for David Bowie and Dan Aykroyd. Falls short of being really good but pretty good and gets better as it goes. Will always remember Landis for constantly drinking Tab cola in the making of Michael Jackson's Thriller video.
Gripping story, and most of all David Bowie's portrait will resonate among many more films to come.
