Is Anybody There? Reviews

This is a touching, amusing and sad watch. I really liked the interaction between Michael Caines character and the young boy. I could understand things from both peoples points of view and I could certainly relate to the boys frustrations and isolation. Its a bit of a weepy type watch at times but it definitely has at least a hint of typical British dark humour, which I liked. It is definitely sentimental but it doesn't shy away from issues relating to old age. This film really appealed to me.

Dreadful. We love Michael Caine. We tried. The forced whimsy and black humor, the cartoonish characterizations, hamfisted direction, overacting, clunky editing -- we stopped after five minutes, then a few nights later I said "Let's at least watch to the point where Michael Caine arrives." That turned out to be a contrived "meet cute (meet angry)" setup. Agh! Just a dreadful, forced, charmless movie. Avoid.

This film is touching in so many levels as it deals with so many issues including life ,death and everything in-between. I am not going to spoil anything so I am just going to say that it is about a young boy growing up in an old people's home and a man living there dealing with his regrets. All the cast were wonderful but especially David Morrissey and Michael Cain. I think this is one of Michael Cain's greatest performance to date but lets not forget about Bill Milner and Anna Maria Duff who also gave great performances. The chemistry between Michael Cain and Bill Milner was very good and really does make the film the heart-warming comedy- drama that it is.

Michael gives one of the finest acting master classes ever to hit the movie screen. The depth and complexity of his character is a marvel to behold. The rest of the cast add to this extraordinary play with aplomb making this a quiet treat. Nibbles: Jamaica Cake.

I thought this was a great little indie film. Michael Caine gives and outstanding performance and it's just a nice and unique little story with both humour and sadness. Give it a try!

A northern gritty narrative about the twilight years and afterâ?¦with Michael Caine in it. It's not bad. 온라인카지노추천 movie stuff.

I was impressed with Michael Caine's performance, and Bill Milner. I'm not usually that excited about watching Caine, as I think he's pretty much played the same role throughout his entire cinema career. But this performance seemed to offer something I'd never seen from him before; I was hooked right from the start. Its all fairly predictable but immensely endearing at the same time. Good show.

From the producers of Little Miss Sunshine comes this emotional film on a young boy Edward who lives with his mum and dad in a nursing home where they tend to a group of elderly senile and lost old people. Edward is a disturbed boy who is fascinated with the after life and supernatural ghosts. All that changes when a ex magician called Clarence played emotionally by Michael Caine plans to stay at the nursing home for a short time and ends up been one room away from Edward, helping him to come out of his shell and find something meaningful in his life. The film can be pretty hard going for those who have grandparents that have gotten dementia or Alzheimer and forget what their lives are like. There are a lot of emotional and sometimes scenes where you get frustrated with the main character Edward for been who he is. Edward is the sole symbol of social outcast in the film who been the age he is does not want to believe that in the afterlife there is no re- incarnation and that he can make friends with the living instead of been fascinated with the dead, adding to the issues between his parents who are dealing with their personal struggles because of how time has passed them by. Michael Caine is truly emotional in this film and enjoyable to watch, especially when he puts on a magic show for a kids party and it goes terribly wrong. But at the end you feel good afterwards knowing that it didn't end depressingly and badly

Clarence: Now for those of you who have never before sat in a seance, there is absolutely nothing to be fearful of. Ghosts... are very friendly sorts. I'll start by saying I got absolutely no enjoyment from watching Is Anybody There? outside of the central performance from Michael Caine. When Michael Caine can give a performance like this, and still not lift a movie over the hill, that is saying something. Caine is one of my favorite actors of all-time, so I'll watch anything he's ever been in. I mean I watched The fucking Swarm for godsakes. Is Anybody There? never gets anywhere in my opinion. It's predictable and annoying. The little kid in this one rivals any kid in movie history for me on the annoyance level. He's right there with that little fucker from Sleepless in Seattle. And when there's an annoying kid in a film, it just ruins the whole experience for me. He's the type of kid you just want to punch in the face. Edward is growing up in a nursing home which his parents run. By seeing a lot of death early on in his life, he has grown obsessed with death and the afterlife. He has ghost drawings hanging on his wall, and he spends his time trying to talk to the spirits in his house. Clarence shows up to take a room in the nursing home, and although the two start off on wrong terms, the two quickly become friends. I wasn't really buying the whole friendship in this one. I thought it was poorly developed, and didn't resonate the same power as say the friendship between characters in a movie like Secondhand Lions. Overall, I was fairly unimpressed by everything that was going on in this one. I found very little to take away from it, other than more reassurance that Caine is one of the best actors ever. It's a rather boring, dull, and uneventful film.

This film slowly meanders through a tired storyline that ultimately tries to convey something about loss or death or forgiveness or something. It's the classic case of two people finding exactly what they need in each other under the circumstances, one nearing the end of life and one just beginning it. There was simply nothing in this film to make it interesting and nothing really fantastic to take away.

"Is anybody there?" is a quiet film that succeeds because it never falls into a schmaltz fest and a driven powerful performance by Michael Caine. It explores several key elements of life through a young boy and his family who live and run a nursing facility. The boy is fascinated by what happens after death and has become out of touch with life, his mother is a hard working woman who also has devoted perhaps to much of her time to the care of the elderly and would seemingly zombie through the day, His father in return is a man who has grown restless and tired of life with his wife. So in comes Michael Caine as Clarence the Magician bitter at having to join assisted living and regretful of some of his less than spectacular choices in life."Is anybody there?" focuses on the quiet dynamic of his charachter and the boys as they teach each other a little bit about life and death in their own way, the element of the film that is the true magic. Unfortunately the film wobbles in balance and flow at times and the supporting cast seem a tad cliched. It's worth a watch for Michael Caines performance alone, just don't expect ground breaking material.

A brilliantly profound yet sad film with a great cast. It truly touched me and although the story was fairly predictable it was Caine that made the character. Despite his bad actions you still felt for him as he was genuinely sorry for what he did. The themes they explored were difficult to watch. Incredibly sad and I think I'll only watch it if I feel sad already.
