Actually more credible than a number of contemporary full-length nature documentaries as it's more a humanely driven portrait with undeniably grown inspiring passion as evidently functioned in reaction to an excellent prompt, reflectively stirring societally commentative observations that absorbs us within the impeccably polished restoration towards the beautiful photography with resonance. It is wonderful to see a frank and honest documentary about the life and work of a genuine hero of biology. Jane makes very good use of recently rediscovered, archive footage of primatologist Jane Goodall showing how her work into the behaviour of chimpanzees developed into the longest study of its kind. The dedication of this inspirational woman shines through but the film doesn't shy away from showing us some of the mistakes she made and the frailties of her personality. The early footage of her in Tanzania during the 1960s that was shot by her husband, Hugo van Lawick is fascinating and director Brett Morgan allows Goodall herself to narrate her story in the open, easy manner for which she is renowned. This film will appeal to anyone with an interest in natural history as the field owes Goodall so much. The insights it gives into how her work developed makes for compulsive and informative viewing.

Although valuable to recognize the effort done for years, it doesn't catch a minimum part of the complexity and interest divulgative articles have spread about Goodall work.

Absolutely absorbing in every sense. Stunning, enlightening, funny and sad at times. I have to say one of the best movies of any type I have ever watched. Of course.....Jane Goodall is one of our planet's greatest treasures !

Another good bio. This time on Jane Goodall.

A very human and humane documentary about Jane Godall and her research with chimpanzees at Gombe National Park. It has a human interest lens and focuses quite a bit on her and her family life. It's a making of Jane Godall kind of movie. I really enjoyed it. It chose not to look at the more technical aspects of her work or the larger picture re this kind of research and the fate of chimps today, but that was not its intent. In 1.5 hours the director tells an inspiring and cogent story. The truth is one movie alone cannot do justice to such a monumental figure. Recommended.

A film that is pretending to be profound when it is, in fact, shallow. It cares more about pretty pictures than telling Jane's story. Phillip Glass's grating soundtrack is the final nail in the coffin.

Wonderful, fascinating film is completely ruined and overwhlemed by an inappropriate Philip Glass soundtrack that often drowns out and competes with Jane's soft voice and message.

A very personal look at Jane Goodall

Jane was an awesome portrait of an ambitious and caring, yet sometimes naive, real woman's life.

Marvelous movie about an extraordinry woman's chimpanzee ethnography. louis leakey handpicked the inexperienced but gifted Goodall for the project because of her love of animals and passion for observational learning--great choice! Jane goodall has been a huge asset to the field of anthropology. i absolutely loved the movie!

Es una lástima que todo ese material que remasterizaron y colorearon lo hayan puesto en tan aburrido documental. Docenas de horas de los primeros años de observación de Goodall en el parque Gombe de Tanzania dispuestos de forma aburrida que realmente cuentan muy poco sobre la vida y las circunstancias que la llevaron a la vida que escogió para si. Como está tan mal hecho la verdad no se sabe bien que la llevó a querer escapar de casa desde pequeña para irse a cualquier lugar de África, lejos de todos y solo rodeada de animales. Es como ver otro documental más de chimpancés, muy bonito muy interesante, muy aburridito. Lástima que los de NatGeo no hayan aprendido a hacer documentales como la gente de la BBC que si la tiene clara.

So long as you're okay with nature red in tooth and claw, and have some level of interest in women in science/jungles, it's pretty good. Only real experts will realise the chimps are dubbed.

Jane Goodall is one of my heroes. This film uses amazing archival footage alongside a voiceover by Dr. Goodall to delve deep into who she was and why she was able to make such astounding discoveries about the habits of chimpanzees. She is an amazing woman who has given her life to the study and protection of animals and the conservation of habitat. Jane Goodall is a global treasure and this film should not be missed. The score is also amazing and lends just the right tone to the film.

I'm a fan of JG so it was a total treat to see this new footage and learn the lesser-known details of her life. I found it lovely and compelling enough for the length, as you are really left with a feeling of what it's like to hang out with these primates and follow them over years. However, all 3 of us in the room found the music to be mixed so loud at times we were struggling to hear dialog, especially in the first third. So if you have the opportunity to display closed captioned subtitles, take it!
