JCVD Reviews
A very good, typicaly non Hollywood production. I liked it because of the weird dialoges and the good acting of an aging JCVD.
A very interesting if not perfectly realized film, "JCVD" delightfully basks in the sunlight of its meta premise like there's no tomorrow. The photography didn't click with me and now and then it felt like the movie was trying to eulogize JCVD, but I enjoyed the humour, the self-referential aspects and the way the story was presented. Yet stealing the show is JCVD himself, who has doubtlessly grown a lot as an actor since his action hero heyday and hereby delivers a career-defining performance.
Pretty good! I wouldn't class 'JCVD' as anything above that, though it is a film worth watching. I really like the way the story is portrayed, while it's interesting to have JCVD play JCVD. It's not as entertaining as it perhaps could've been, though it merits props for how it's put together and how it comes out - which is positively
Inconsistencies (especially in story & tone) abound. Cinematography is clumsy, claustrophobic, & ugly. However, contains Van Damme’s arguably best performance, capped off by a powerful monologue recorded in a six minute unbroken take. #nitrosMovieChallenge
Strong beginning and strong ending, but drugs a bit in the middle. Still, definitely the best movie JCVD ever made and ever will.
I think that Van Damme can act I love this movie it is rare these days to see incredible real martal art actors . There are great ones today but rare although this movie is a nice portrayed by Jean Claude Van Dame. Have more closed sets so he can create his craft I may have gone of topic of the movie but he is great. Make more movies like this .
This film really displays how much range Van Damme actually has and it's fun to see him not take himself too seriously.
WTF? Watch JCVD have a mid-life crisis. In French. What you really always wanted - a dirty, run down part of Belgium. Everything filmed in sepia tones to give it that extra 'grimy' look. Then reshoot the same scenes over and over again while the director yells whatever is French for 'try to look MORE dejected! Your lives all suck really bad'. OMG. There is an implausible bank robbery plot tied in here, but it is only there so JCVD can look more dejected. I will say this for the movie - Van Damme is generally a likeable fellow, and even in this train wreck of a movie, that shows through. I thought his other geriatric outing - 'Jean Claude Van Johnson' was MUCH more fun to watch and explored some of the same themes in a more light hearted manner.
I didn't love the story but JCVD gives a fantastic performance that will have you glued to your seat.
JCVD is an interesting movie for Jean Claude defiantly not his normal fair. Interesting introspective dialogue and a really weird dub makes this a strange movie.
JCVD is the best. Steven Seagal is just a bloody cock puncher!!
Adding personal introspect to his repotiore you was the room point for making this a great piece of work. Love the artistic style of this film and the reality of perception while infusing some of his true personal battles.
JCVD is a breath of fresh air. It's darkly funny, down-to-earth, and full of heart. Van Damme gives a brilliant, damn near Oscar-worthy performance, which a statement I never thought I'd say. He's at his most honest and vulnerable here; in one scene, he pulls back the curtains completely into his psyche and it's heartbreaking. JCVD is a beautiful film and proves that, not only is Van Damme an immensely talented martial artist, he's become a terrific actor as well.
Aging action star returns to Belgium a broken man fresh from losing a custody case for his daughter in Hollywood. Upon his arrival, the bad news continues with a disastrous ATM encounter that leads him into the bank and straight into a robbery situation, for which he's about to be blamed. Soon, crowds grow outside on the street, with the cops quick to point the finger at him and his fans cheering for his release.
81% Saw this on 8/8/16 In this semi-biographical film Jean Claude Van Damme acts up a storm and his monologue about his past life is extremely heartfelt. Though the film takes some time to be engaging, it gets entertaining and unpredictable as time passes.
JCVD is a wee gem of a movie, well worth watching for Jean Claude Van Damme giving the best performance of his career.
Van Damme delivers. An interesting movie giving the inside view on the day in the life of a celebrity in hard times who is thrust into an extraordinary situation. Well worth the watch.
Inteligente film , donde la realidad se cruza con la fantasìa y ocurre lo inimaginable Van Damme sabe actuar, recomendable.
