The Jerk Reviews
Next level genius and mastery of comedy
A classic that gets better with every rewatch
Pretty funny. I would say it's worth a watch.
I was a big fan back in the day, and this movie was an event for me and my friends. I’ve wanted to watch it again for some time now, so I finally did tonight. Some of the humor is a bit dated now, but the duet with Bernadette Peters is as lovely as ever. I believe Martin plays the ukulele live while they sing, but I’m not sure.
if you love slap stick humour give this a watch very funny scenes and loads of laughs
The Jerk is a classic American tale of rags to riches and back to rags. It has the feel of something that your grandfather used to love back in the day. Steve Martin is delighting and the comedy is down to a science. There is a score of great comedic moments. It feels like a bridge between old and new comedy and that makes it something special.
First time watching it and it was a fun movie and Steve Martin was great in it!
The Jerk is stupid, but it's my kind of stupid. Steve Martin knew that he was creating a silly film for people to laugh at when they're in a silly mood, and I think he succeeded at that. I can quote almost the entire movie and find myself laughing at moments I've seen a dozen times before. Bernadette Peters also shines in her role as Marie, who is the perfect sweet idiot to accompany Navin R. Johnson. It may not please audiences today, and there are moments where the screenplay feels a little cobbled together, but I believe anyone who doesn't find some enjoyment watching this movie is, well, a jerk.
A classic. If you are easily offended, stay away....please. We don't want you to see it anyway.
The situational comedy was hilarious, but the cheesy over-the-top acting and dialogue is just too forced.
Great humor. Steve Martin is brilliant as he portrays an absolute idiot.
By today's standards, this is a mid, maybe even sub par comedy. But keep in mind, this type of crude humor that would be SOOO overdone later got its start here. This is basically a standup routine that got made into a movie. There are some wildly funny moments here, some of which someone born in the 21st century may not get. Unfortunately, there are long, dumb stretches too. Steve Martin plays the whole thing straight better than almost anyone I can think of.
Steve Martin is awesome! A really good cast. But only a few funny moments. Don't get me wrong. Those few jokes are top notch. Just not enough of them.
I remembered this as funny. Now it just seems stupid.
Spoofy, hilarious, outrageously funny at times. One of Steve Martin's best, with Bernadette Peters his compellingly funny love interest. Tightly edited, leaving you with nothing but entertainment.
This is the absolute pinnacle of 70's comedy right here.
This movie stinked. The only part I thought was funny was when he turned his head around and was getting shot at. Awful. Good Riddance
One of Martin's best.
Some hilarious parts. Mostly stupid and cringe worthy
I don't know why but it is just the right level of deadpan surrealism.
