Straightforward but self-illuminating.
**Review of *Jim Henson: Idea Man* – 3.5 Stars** *Jim Henson: Idea Man* is a heartfelt deep dive into the mind of one of the most creative forces in entertainment history. As a lifelong Muppets fan, I loved seeing the origins of Kermit and getting a peek behind the curtain at how Henson built his empire. The doc really gives you a sense of who he was — not just as a creator but as a person — and covers everything from *Sesame Street* to *The Dark Crystal* with impressive detail. The behind-the-scenes footage is gold, and you walk away feeling like you really *get* Henson. That said, it does drag a bit in places — the amount of content almost begs for a docuseries rather than a single film. Still, it’s a well-crafted tribute to a true icon. If you’re a Henson fan, it’s absolutely worth your time — just be ready for a slightly long sit.

The story of Jim Henson is a classic tale of never letting negativity get in the way of creativity, but the film is also honest with his personal flaws, too.
Not as clunky as most of this sort of documentary, largely because Henson’s legacy has only become more fascinating with time in spite of Disney’s best efforts to undermine it.
I thought I wouldn't cry; I was wrong. So very, very wrong. My love for Jim and his work is without bounds and I'm so happy that the documentary was done with an obviously deep respect for both him as a person, and his achievements and contributions to the world.
Thank you, Ron Howard...Thank you, Jane Henson... thanks to all the Henson children and frankly the entire family... all of the the beautiful, talented, devoted friends and colleagues... Jim Henson left the world a much better place for him having been here... THIS WAS MAGICAL...BRAVO, Opie!!! You ain't too shabby, yourself!!! 💜💚🌈

Beautiful movie and a wonderful tribute to an amazing man.
A lot of insight into one of the most influential entertainment masters for GenXers. I think they could have gone deeper. It just seems to scratch the surface, for a person who has a lot of footage and stories to show who he was.
I just watched it and it really digs deep into the whole history of Jim Henson. The last few minutes were extremely emotional for me. Definitely something you must watch! 5/5
Incredible storying telling of a creative genius. Time flew by watching and left me wanting to watch Labyrinth for the 1000th Time! Could the doc go more into the "mind" of his creative or his personal relationships...of course. He created so much in a short amount of time and probably achieved more than 20X the average creative in one year, so yes there is going to be a lot left unexplored. Ron Howard produced a movie that the masses could be re-introduced and entertained to the life of a non-stop innovator and creative with the majority of the movie showing old footage and film, including behind the scenes. For those who said too long...I say, not long enough. Both of this film and his life.
Enjoyable. but too long. I had it watch it in two viewings.
Well intentioned but Boring documentary about legendary puppeteer Jim Henson is literally all over the place in terms of focus. Howard should have focused on four or five pivotal career highs or turning points. Instead we get literally EVERYTHING. And I mean Everything!! AND You could almost watch this documentary and miss the fact that it's all about puppets, because Howard is so unfocused in his direction. I wanted to like this movie, but I didn't, and I just can't recommend it.
