Jonah Hex Reviews
"Jonah Hex" is as convoluted and as haphazardly made as the title character's face.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 4, 2023
[Jonah Hex] finds Hollywood carelessly slapping together elements of a bankable property and failing in every respect, to degrees that go beyond just bad filmmaking and instead reach extremes of moviegoer abuse.

I really wish they'd kept Jonah locked up in that broom cupboard.

For a supernatural Western about a hardened bounty hunter who comes back from the dead to take revenge, everything about this film is rather restrained.

Unless you're a Megan Fox fanboy with no cinematic standards to speak of, then Jonah Hex isn't worth your time.
| Original Score: 1.5/4.0 | Sep 13, 2020
Jimmy Hayward's film is a cartoonish melange of cliché set-pieces seemingly ripped straight from the pages of the comic with no thought as to how they would make a coherent on-screen narrative.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 24, 2019
The wildly dissonant tone caroms so haphazardly between self-satire and self-seriousness (sometimes within the same scene!) that it's impossible to form anything resembling an attachment to the characters or situations.

The really sad part is that Josh Brolin is great as Jonah...

It's popcorn-chomping fun rooting for the soul-stripped Hex as he battles his way toward redemption and sweet, sweet payback.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 15, 2013
It's a little too brief to get bored exactly, but it's certainly long enough to get frustrated at the lack of the essential ingredients to get the audience engaged in its story.

It's a standard Western revenge tale dressed up with supernatural elements.

The mark of a good actor is being good in a really bad movie. Josh Brolin is a really, really good actor, because most of the time he's on screen speaking you can almost forget what a loathsome, irredeemable, turd of a film Jonah Hex is.

When it works, which it does quite often, it's one of the better comic book adaptations of recent years.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 14, 2010
Seems almost calculated meticulously to suck the life out of its audience as much as humanly possible...

The film is simply too brief, too befuddled and too delirious to do the comic book legend justice.
| Original Score: 4/10 | Oct 20, 2010
An awful excuse for cinema that ultimately fails in nearly every way possible.
| Original Score: 1/4 | Oct 20, 2010
...remarkably two-dimensional, showing evidence of having been edited down from something more complex.

To quote Clint Eastwood's Monco in For A Few Dollars More, you people need a new sheriff.
