If the main takeaway from Juanita is that it exposes us to a variety of characters we're not used to seeing interact with each other in places that are also just as rare, it's a breezy watch that could pair nicely with a tall glass of wine one evening.

Although "Juanita" teeters off track a bit with the chef's half-baked back story, it soars when it allows its lead to explore the complexities of love and unbridled joy. And Woodard completely owns it.

It's a step in the right direction for Netflix in one way, giving an older black woman her own narrative but one hopes that with progress, more adequate resources and more gifted storytellers will help bring these stories to light in the future.
