Just Friends Reviews
I'd rather watch "A Serbian Film" it would be less painful. This movie is the cinematic equivalent to sex with flacid member, zero satisfaction and a ton of embarrassment for what you just went through. Nobody learns anything, the main romantic leads have as much chemistry as a bar of soap, the "twist" villain gets no comeuppance and the final gag at the end is a wet fart that makes you think "OH GOD NO, Its happening again!". The only reason I rated it half a star is because I cant go lower with my rating. If you wanna watch Ryan Reynolds get tortured for 90+ minutes, watch "Buried" you'll get exactly what you paid for and you won't have to waste your time on a romantic comedy that is neither romantic nor comedic. 0/10 Never again
Most rom coms are either one or the other, but this manages to be both. The acting was good & some of the scenes made me laugh out loud.
Cute film, it would have been a perfect family movie but the characters said Gods name in vain way too much. I Don’t need to hear OMG through the whole movie
Personally, I found painful to watch the guy. Looking at the cast pictures, which as commonly on this site are not contemporary to the movie, Reynolds lost a lot of weight down the road. Watching a movie where I suspect a cause of mirth is that the fat guy goes for the attractive girl is not my cup of tea.
This is a lost gem of a comedy that has so many great lines and scenes. Ryan Reynolds is at his wise cracking best. Anna Farris plays the most annoying Britney Spears type pop star and it’s wonderful to see Airplane’s Julie Hagerty play the enabling mother. Her song “be yourself” is 😂
Hilarious rom-com that finally separates Ryan Reynolds from his normal demeanor.
Loved this so much. I'll probably watch it every Christmas now. :)
It is a perennial holiday favorite. Always will watch during the season.
Critics are Peasants. See it for yourself
This was such a bad movie, I’m genuinely stunned. I really don’t know what the point of Anna Farris’s character was. I don’t know why Jamie ended up with Chris, when he did nothing to redeem himself beyond tell her he loved her. There’s no explanation as to why she decided to go for him in the present day but not in high school. Is it because he was fat? He objectively has a worse personality now, so it has to be just his looks. There was no character growth or anything. I genuinely just wasted an hour and a half of my life
This may be the worst movie I've ever seen. I made an account just to rate it. I know this movies a product of its time but even for the mid 2000's, I don't think this was good. Incredibly dated, offensive and just not funny. I didn't even blow air out my nose. It's like someone had the gaul to think they could make some rendition of Christmas Vacation. But you should actually just watch that movie instead if you're looking to watch this for its Christmas element. Literally the only good part was when Eyes by Rogue Wave played (the first time). That and the main characters other 2 highschool friends. Don't be fooled by Ryan Reynolds being the lead. Not even he makes this movie enjoyable.
Just Friends is a solid rom-com. Ryan Reynolds brings his signature charisma that I love, and everyone has great chemistry with one another. Anna Faris is absolutely brilliant as this unhinged pop star, and I could've seen her maybe even getting some Oscar consideration, because she plays the role that well. This movie is filled with some pretty big laughs throughout, and it's a very entertaining watch. They also do a good job at making you care about Ryan Reynolds character, even if he can be pretty unlikable at times. I really liked how the initial concept is very realistic and relatable, as most nice guys don't get the girl and are put in the friend zone, and I feel like it dives into this struggle in a realistic way, despite being surrounded by a lot of outlandish stuff happening. With that said, the film still doesn't break any new ground, and it is very predictable. Also, not all of jokes land. I do feel like some stuff in the third act could've been handled better. Overall this is a pretty funny and enjoyable rom-com.
Hilarious! I laughed throughout the entire movie. I thought Anna Faris' character made the show. She was incredibly funny! This movie has become a tradition to watch around the holidays. How can you not get into the holiday spirit with family & friends after watching this?
An absolute hilarious and sneaky Christmas film with an outstanding cast with great chemistry. Definitely one of my holiday favorites.
This was the rare movie that the wife and I, with time to fill, and happy to be filling it together, agreed, barely a third of the way in, to abandon. To walk away. We had zero interest in the thinly drawn, over-the-top characters (characters is a bit optimistic). The fat-shaming was coarse and humorless. The overdrawn pop-rock star was inhuman. There was zero chemistry between the hoped-for real romance. The protagonist was wooden, unsympathetic. This was a comedy, and we could see that there were comic scenes, but they weren't funny. This was, overall, about as bad as it gets.
One of the funniest movies with an incredible cast.
I always forget how funny this movie is until I watch again
Best romantic comedy ever made!
I just do not get the hate for this funny movie, people you need to either get a sense of humor or you were a fat dude in a past life and just can not get over it. Me? 65 year old professional, this movie cracked me up.
