*I'd like to first start by saying that most of my reviews are positive because I research what I watch before watching it. An excellent cold war nuclear sub disaster flick, starring legends Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson and a young Peter Sarsgaard. It's loosely based on a true story and I've enjoyed it multiple times. I felt the score, especially towards the end, was a bit over the top - but honestly, this film is underrated. K-19 The Widow Maker was a gripping, emotional thriller.

Saw for the 2nd? 3rd? time today. Definitely the ratings are way off.

Nothing entertaining about this movie that Harrison Ford shouldnt have even considered. One of his worst.

Ford and Neeson made a cold war sub movie worth watching. Radiation poisoning was painful to watch.

I thought this was a solid film, sort of a Das Boat meets Chernobyl.

Great movie! Great cast with Harrison Ford (as Cpt. Vostrikov) and Liam Neeson (as Officer Polenin). They make a great team interpreting the captain and the main officer on the first Soviet Union nuclear submarine that had an accident and they were all in danger of irradiations. The movie successfully contrasts the difficulties of making the right decisions under great life-threatening pressure and the easiness of judging the gravity of a situation from a warm office and in circumstances that aren't life-threatening.

Everytime I've watched this movie i thoroughly enjoy it, although the Russian accents are a bit iffy.

Set during the cold war, K-19 is a gripping military and disaster drama. Fantastic acting between Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson. Many of the smaller roles are also wonderfully portrayed. Based on real events.

This movie is great, on its face. The cinematography is delightful, the action is well paced, and the score is exquisite. And then there's a Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson who couldn't be bothered to maintain a Russian accent for more than 3 seconds at a time. it's a laughable excuse for an effort and it's obvious they phoned it in at the expense of everyone else who honestly tried.

I remember seeing this movie in the theaters. Although it had a good cast which is what drew me to watch it, the script just wasn't strong enough and I left the theater disappointed.

Stupid and flawed premise. Reactors may melt down, but they don't explode and even if they did, it wouldn't set off the nuclear missiles. Another Hollywood movie perpetrating a false myth of the danger of nuclear power.

K-19: The Widowmaker was relatively enjoyable despite the fact that most of the cast didn't sound or look Russian. Some of the accents were off at times (like Harris Ford's) whilst other actors didn't even try doing a Russian accent. Although the story was mostly predictable and it was obvious how things would end, I didn't find the plot boring. I thought the action was suspenseful and entertaining for the most part, and the characters were decent too. Considering how not much happens (submarine drills and then the nuclear reactor accident), I'm surprised it managed to stay watchable. The acting was fine besides the accent problem, the submarine set looked realistic, the cinematography was ok, the soundtrack was good, and the visual effects were acceptable. Far from the worst film but also not great.

It's not the best submarine film you could choose to watch. Not by a long shot. This one is reminiscent of The Hunt for Red October. Except more people die horribly in this one. A true story. But they've taken liberty with the facts. The acting is not bad. And I did feel for those who showed such bravery in sacrificing themselves to save their friends. The crew is the family. The music is fairly unremarkable. And I have to say it's nowhere the level of Das Boot. All in all, it's okay.
