Killing Gunther Reviews
A little amusing film but not a belly laugh a min. Personally I am not into the fake documentary style of film, that's better suited for tv.
Worst movie ever. And I really love action movies. It's a waste of time, I want my time back!!
Absolutely amazing movie to watch with friends.
We couldn't make it past the 45 minute mark, which was a battle in itself. The plot is horribly thin with very obvious way markers. Maybe I just don't understand the Mockumentary genre.
First of all, if you watch, hang on for the last moment of the post-credit hilarity. Second, despite its low budget and uneven production, I enjoyed it. HOWEVER, read the reviews and understand that this is high camp, which, understandably, is not for everyone.
grotesque, sometimes funny but very second-rate in script and direction. very poor acting performance by almost everyone involved.
So you read the reviews here and think, well how bad can it be? Much much worse than you can possibly imagine! This is what you get when you give a big ego to much rope to hang himself with. Never found Taran Killam particularly funny, and this just proves he really isn't. A cheap Will Ferrel wannabe clone with no particular talent except enough ego to want this. Arnold shows up about an hour late, despite being funny, it really doesn't matter because the previous hour was so bad. Just imagine a really bad SNL sketch, only 90 minutes of unfunny first draft BS.
Finally watched this film, & honestly, it was stupid. Funny but still stupid. But I do enjoy Arnie films where he laughs at himself so to speak.
Absurd in a fun way and fewvery funny moments.
Absolutely hilarious with action and total originality. It has a B-movie feel with an A-list cast. I absolutely love it I've seen it two three times already and I will definitely watch it again.
I tuned in to this film because of Schwarzenegger's presence and I was a bit surprised (even with my admittedly low expectations) that I laughed out loud a few times early on. Killing Gunther starts out promisingly enough. But the characters, although played by an enthusiastic cast, wear out their welcome pretty quickly and the film runs out of gas well before Schwarzenegger's brief, but enjoyable appearance late in the film.
Only good bit was Arny only good bit and wasn't in it enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This film was truly awful. The only saving grace was Arnold and he wasnt even in it for 75% of the film.
I'm a sucker for the mockumentary and love some funny Arnold. Bobby Moynihan gets my MVP and always seems to make me laugh.
At least is not boring... however, good it isn't. Despite the cast having fun, specially Arnie, recovering his comedic timing.
Infuriatingly bad watch, probably won't watch again, and can't recommend. It's like someone wanted "Barry" and "The Office" to be the same thing, but they couldn't get a name big enough except for Arnold Schwarzenegger who looks awesome in this, so why wouldn't he take the pay check. And I like almost everyone in this movie, Arnold included, they're really funny people, and I bet this movie was a blast to make. However, this movie is a fine example of what NOT to do for found footage, and why making a "fake-umentary" is so hard to do correctly. Unfortunately, these comedy actors are mostly sketch artists (SNL) or they work parts on sitcoms, Hannah Simone was the "best friend" on "New Girl", but other than Taran Killam (arguably), they haven't carried a show before, and I don't think they realized that making a movie isn't the same as making episodes. I would love to see all these people back together in a good movie, but the writing in this movie is heavily dependent on weak characters with soft motivations, and a lot, A LOT, of attention seeking humor (basically the movie demands you watch it, "Look at me dad! Dad! YOU'RE NOT LOOKING!"), or situational humor, which takes a LOT of work to either set up or explain. I was really looking forward to this one, which might be why I'm being so critical, because it is a GREAT premise, but they didn't take writing the script seriously because it's a comedy so they loss some of the "oomph" and draw it should have had. And there are few physics breaking things that I wouldn't have cared about so much, but the rest of the movie was grating at me that it didn't care, so I shouldn't care. I'm not mad in the end, I'm just disappointed.
