Ladder 49 Reviews
Coming from a family of firefighters this is one of the best firefighter movies of all time And I genuinely don’t understand the low rating As for me and my family it will always be one of the best and a true classics
So I've been a FF both career and volunteer for going on 16 years now. I was going through my fire academy and we all went to one of the guys houses to watch this movie and I fell in love even more woth the profession. The action scenes aren't perfect because a lot doesn't transfer to the big screen very well but the brotherhood and the moments between the guys, the personalities and the families is dead on. Everytime I watch movie this I fall in love all over again.
Ignore what the clueless critics say about this movie. Ladder 49 is EXCELLENT. Ask any fireman who's seen this film, they will tell you that it nails the brotherhood and life of many firefighters. The movie pulls you in and makes you feel for the characters, by the end you will be bawling over the hardships they face and the sacrifices they make in order to save innocent lives. 10/10 highly recommend
Bland, forgettable and by the numbers. Those who love this kind of film will enjoy but it has nothing new to offer.
Firefighting is inherently admirable and worthy of the Hollywood treatment. In fact, we probably need more movies delineating just how difficult and courageous of a profession it is. But in the words of Switch from "The Matrix," "not like this. . .not like this." "Ladder 49" is as plain and bland it gets, just eking by with its competent look and feel, tricking you into following through with an experience that's so empty and hokey overall, you can't help but guess the year it came out correctly every time. Wadded together with characters, scenes and even lines you've seen before (there's a character that straight up says, "I'm getting too old for this shit" multiple times, as if no cinemagoer's heard the line from Lethal Weapon parodied a thousand times over already) it has to be one of the clearest examples of a movie I've seen in quite a while that I'd advise you put on if you just want to "tune out." There's even a relatively ballsy -- considering the kinds of narratives that were popular at the time -- ending that's completely undone by one of the cheesiest songs I've ever heard written for and placed into a film. I wish I could give Joaquin a mulligan on this one, but it's just so cringe-inducing. Please, watch "Backdraft" instead of this.
This might be the most generic movie I’ve ever seen. It’s not bad though.
Ladder 49 should've been sad and/or entertaining. But I felt disappointed and rushed. It's kind of pale.
A very good film about firefighters that puts them in a good light. The ending was not a shock because right in the beginning you can already guess how it is going to end but you see Joaquin Phoenix's journey from being a rookie firefighter to a hero and how John Travolta guided him throughout the film.
The movie is very realistic and portrays the everyday actions inside a firehouse. It portrays the partying side of firemen and the serious side as well. It also shows Jackï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s life as a father and husband which I see as important because it shows how the family is affected by the everyday life of a fireman. The setting is very well thought out and is very realistic to pretty much any firehouse. The communication and actions on the fire ground portray a real life fire ground extremely well. Overall itï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s an amazing film and I enjoyed every moment of it.
This isn't the first movie about fireman, but, at least in its faithfulness to the rigors and dangers of the job, it may be the most accurate. However, as good as the fire-fighting material is, the dramatic backstory is awash in clich?s and insipid melodrama. One could argue that such an approach isn't all bad - after all, it allows us to know and like the characters - but there are times when Ladder 49 gets a little too cute. Overall, I would consider the film to be a modest success, but not a great breakthrough. The story is straightforward enough that, if you've seen the previews, there aren't many surprises left. Still, a watchable film indeed
Remembering this had some themes borrowed from Goodfellas, it turned out to be just another action based firefighter blockbuster. Stiff acting and the timeline is stupidly jumpy and mostly unexplained. "Oh she was pregnant, now she has two children of comparable age.."
Ladder 49 Is A Great Firefighter Movie One Of My Favorites I Remember Watching Ladder 49 In Theaters And I Cried Bless Our Firefighters Firefighters Lives Matter
This is a very post-9/11 movie. Everyone involved in this film either dies or gets horrifically injured however the tone of the entire film is like this is some amazing aspirational lifestyle. The main character dies and leaves his young family behind however as the credits role you feel like you've just watched a Fire Department recruitment advert. Enjoyable fluff apart from that.
Terrifying in an epic way, Ladder 49 endured a bit of cheese sprinkled in the script to deliver an effective, if not overtly dramatic experience.
Great movie. Ladder 49 is a lot like the other movies in the firefighting genre, but it is still moving, powerful, and suspenseful. The firefighting scenes are well-executed, and the characters are written to show their humanity and bravery. The performances are great, especially Phoenix, Barrett, and Travolta.
