The Ladykillers Reviews
I remain somewhat confused by the excessively negative reviews. Its different enough from the original to negate excessive comparison and while many of the performances are cartoonish, that is normal for the Coen's other comedies that people seem to like. Personally I think the tone works as does the moral dark comedy elements.
Good, but the film with Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers is better.
I recently had the pleasure of watching "The Ladykillers," and I must say, it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The film's blend of dark humor, suspense, and quirky characters kept me thoroughly entertained throughout. One of the undeniable highlights of the movie was the exceptional performances delivered by Tom Hanks and Irma P. Hall. Tom Hanks, known for his versatility as an actor, once again proves why he is considered one of the best in the business. His portrayal of the eccentric Professor G.H. Dorr was both captivating and hilarious, adding depth and charm to the character. Equally impressive was Irma P. Hall's portrayal of the curious and resourceful Marva Munson. Her chemistry with Hanks on screen was palpable, making their interactions all the more enjoyable to watch. Hall brought a perfect balance of wit and warmth to her role, making Marva a character you couldn't help but root for. Beyond the stellar performances, "The Ladykillers" boasts a clever and engaging storyline, expertly crafted direction, and a fantastic supporting cast that all contribute to its overall charm. If you're looking for a film that will keep you entertained from beginning to end, with standout performances from Tom Hanks and Rebecca Hall, then "The Ladykillers" is definitely worth a watch.
Many Coen brothers movies are overrated. A few Coen brothers movies are properly rated. This may be their only movie that's underrated. Great comedic performances, if Tom Hanks is the weakest link in your movie, you probably have a good movie.
Didn't even finish it, its so bad. The original was only ok and even that was better.
I kept watching hoping something better was coming, but despite liking many of the actors I never liked the movie.
Tom Hanks goes above and beyond to play his character well. Unfortunately, the lazy writing makes The Ladykillers an unfunny comedy and an uninteresting heist movie.
Pretty funny. Well-written. Drags a little towards the end. Otherwise, a good film.
Despite high hopes with a great cast and being a Coen brothers production, Lady Killers misfires far more than it hits comedically. As a heist thriller, it offers very little. For these reasons, I would not watch this again.
The worst movie of the Coen brothers career. Lacks any sense of wit and charm. Disappointing
Lots of potential with poor execution. Some funny moments but mostly dissapointing
Amusing dialog at times but that's about it. Too bad Coen Bros couldn't utilize Tom Hanks better.
The Ladykillers isn't a bad movie by conventional standards, but it is always a bit of a disappointment when the Coen brothers unleash a movie that isn't up to their normally high standards. In this remake of the 1955 classic, Goldthwaite Higginson Dorr (Tom Hanks) is the leader of a disparate group of criminals who are plotting to rob a nearby casino. The only thing that stands in the way of success is their own incompetence…and the elderly lady living upstairs. While the movie has its share of laughs, it also has its share of jokes that fall flat or are repeated to the point where they become tiring. Surprisingly, the weakest aspect of The Ladykillers is Hank's performance as the remarkably annoying ringleader, a performance that generates more in resigned sighs and raised eyebrows than it does in laughs.
I don't understand why this movie has so bad reviews. It' so underrated. The screenplay is very good and It's clever and funny at the same time. Great movie!
I don't know why this movie is so despised. I and several friends enjoy it, the cast is great, especially Hanks and Simmons, the story is simple but effective, the comedy works, I really love this movie
Not funny, not clever, boring and aimless.
