Lawless Reviews
I just want to say thank you to the actors in this movie. Definitely one of my top 10 movies of all time. I dont believe you get a finished product like this without the actors being commited to making a great movie. 5 stars.
Interesting true story, villain you want to kill yourself, loved the acting, great selection of actors. Beautiful photography. I enjoyed it.
The cast is outstanding in this picture. Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pierce, Jessica Chastain, Dane Dehaan, Gary Oldman and Bill Camp deliver the goods. It is a very good film and one I recommend. 87/100
A movie that will drive you to drink. A good cast is wasted playing unlikable characters with violent Tendencies and dull love lives. A thoroughly unemployable film.
How do you mess up a movie with such an amazing cast? Well, in this case they did it with a disjointed storyline and plot holes you could drive a load of moonshine through. And cartoonish characters with retched dialogue, such as the Special Deputy. Even the great Guy Pierce couldn't salvage that monolithically evil role. Not sure I've ever seen a character as one dimensional, with the possible exception of Spongebob Squarepants (who's infinitely more entertaining, by the way). As usual, Tom Hardy showed absolute planetary gravitas and just became his terrifying character. Just his performance makes it worth a watch and is basically the only reason I gave it even two stars. As an individual performer he gets five, but sadly even that wasn't enough to elevate this beyond a "meh."
Strong cast, successful acting and a gripping story, it's definitely a must watch.
Patronising at best, guy Pearce is the super villain who cannot be killed and even when killed is done in the dark taking away all pleasure from viewers for chance of justice being done, 1 star simply because couldn't give 0
Filme com proposta de filme, mas que infelizmente que se arrasta e cansa a certo ponto. Logo pensei que estava assistindo uma série.
It's well written and solid acting.
"Lawless" rustles up riveting performances and an engaging plot, appealing to western and crime aficionados alike. Regrettably, its execution falters, dimming its memorability. The ultimate shootout misfires, tarnishing the gritty allure meticulously crafted throughout the movie. A bit more humor or well-placed details foreshadwing events in the conclusion would have elevated the experience even further.
Hardy, Clarke & LeBeouf are a menacing trio in this tooth & nail prohibition showdown. Pearce elevates the show as he becomes more despicable.
More compelling than I thought it would be. The cast is first-rate in changing any mind on that. And the point of view is unrelenting.
quite a bit of overacting, pretty to watch, but overall a miss, Chastain's performance is small but good
Nothing new but an entertaining and stylish organised crime movie from regular collaborators Hillcoat & Cave.
For movies that are based on true stories, this one is not really well known, that depends if people have seen it and they wouldn't know what to think of it. For those who are fans of these actors like Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke and many more, they'll be interested. Maybe not. In the year 1931, the Bondurant brothers, Jack, Forrest and Howard are running a successful moonshine business. They use their gas station and restaurant as a front for their illegal manufacturing business with Cricket. Jack witnesses the infamous mobster Floyd Banner played by Gary Oldman shot two ATF agents in broad daylight. Forrest hires Maggie played by Jessica Chastain as a waitress. A ruthless Special Deputy Charley Rakes played by Guy Pearce who try to shut down their Prohibition-era moonshine business after Forrest refuses to pay off the cops. Forrest gets his throat cut by two men and is send to the hospital. OK so for Charley Rakes and his men who are the law and the three Bondurant brothers who are lawless wanting revenge on them for messing with them, they really do have the depth of what they're doing and the way I see it, it's really intense. When I saw a scene where Jack shows his girlfriend, Bertha his brothers' secret operation, Howard saw Rakes and his men following them and wouldn't you know it, he gives a signal by howling. Oh, God! Howard is howling like a wolf to distract Rakes and his men. The film gets pretty gritty for it's time. The violence gets bloody and brutal, the actors give a good performance, the story is based on the true events. It gets grittier as the film goes. If you enjoyed movies based on true stories then you'll like this one. It's not perfect but it's enjoyable. Give it a watch and see what you make of it.
I find gratuitous violence to be the sign of a weak and badly written movie in general so I was very pleased to note there was none of it in Lawless. The scenes containing violence were very well-crafted and tastefully done and fit the movie perfectly.
A cool fun movie with great acting
Very good acting and a plot that pulls you in.
When you have the fire power this cast brings you assume this movie is a can't miss. This gritty movie missed the mark it was looking for, but it is a solid movie to watch if you are looking for backwoods run and gun movie.
A hot mess of a script, with utter nonsense tossed in throughout. LaBoof tries but fails. Hardy is brilliant as usual, but the movie can't figure out if he is the main story or a side note. Pathetic effort.
