Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Reviews
The first 3 ASOUE books were asapted in this movie. With a duration of 1 hour and 40 minutes, this film didn't manage to cover really important parts of the books, the main plot, the personalities of the characters and its direction is litterally inspired by the medieval era, while the original plot was set in the late 20th century. Jim Carrey plays excellantly....well.., himself, and misses the tone of the series by making Count Olaf an old man who does dinosaur noises spontainiously. The casting is not that bad and Meryl Streep, even though being maybe the only good thing about this movie has to put up with her character's awful writing, since the director took every bad thing about book Josephine, and applied it to Mrs Streep's performance. P.S. I dont want to talk about the references to VFD in this movie because it will make me want to lower my rating half a star.
I enjoy this movie. I wish It was longer
Jim Carrey delivers an absolutely brilliant performance as Olaf, and he truly makes it seem like we are watching a cartoon character come to life. The way that he steals every scene that he is in is amazing to watch, and as Count Olaf he is as entertaining as ever.
Some excellent special effects and a clever plot.
A good movie. Definitely more interesting and mysterious as a kid.
I love a good creepy kids movie but this one left unanswered questions. I have started to read the series so hopefully it’ll be good!
loved this and still do
Even though it is still a good movie, it is still quite a bit disrespectful to the original book franchise (Lemony Snicket's).
It was very entertaining with some good humor and intense situations. It's worth the watch.
I never read the books. Mainly watched it for Jim Carrey. It's delightfully dark and funny.
Could have been better but it's ok
Great movie, and just the right amount of suspense and fear for children to not spook them too much.
There were a few good moments but overall I just thought about the book and show the whole time and how much better they were. I hated most of the dialogue and how weird some of the characters actions felt but some of the concepts were good. When all of Aunt Josephine fears were coming true was the only genuinely good part. Overall the characters didn't feel right and they didn't even do half of the story because it was really rushed and we didn't get to know and like many characters, the ending felt to just even if count Olaf did escape we were told that he was put in jail and through all the things the children had to face first. They drove off into the sunset- it felt like elf movie the film begins with.
A Series of Unfortunate events is an amazing movie. It is really much like the 3 books in the book series, and it was super funny ( unlike the book series). I watched this movie a pretty long time ago, so I kind of forgot it. Bit I remember this movie was not the best, but really good. What a good movie.
Epic movie 10/10 change my life
A decent, cheesy, fun movie for fans of the book and entertaining for kids
a breath of fresh air from formulatic kids movie
