Letters to Juliet Reviews

Apr 21, 2025

Warm and brilliant, Letters to Juliet reunites Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero as a brilliant couple, with beautiful performances by Amanda Seyfrield and Christopher Egan.

This is a very good choice for a date night movie. We know the formula, girl is with guy number one, meets guy number two, goes back to guy number one, drops guy number one, goes back to guy number two and then……. Sorry, no spoilers. Remember, it’s a romance comedy (and a travel film) so you know there’s got to be a happy ending. Watch it with your sweetheart, and a bottle of wine (Italian wine, of course) and sit back and enjoy it. By the way, the Secretaries of Juliet, in Verona Italy, are a real thing. They really answer the letters that the love lorn have left on the wall outside Juliet’s balcony.

I absolutely loved it ❤!!! I want to go to Verona Italy to Juliet's balcony, and write her a letter... This movie was funny, and sweet, and romantic. I can't believe I've never seen it before.... ❤❤❤❤❤

Yes it's clichéd but it's a beautiful tale and Vanessa Redgrave is incredible as Clare.

The story here is simple and deliberstely uncomplicated by any of lifes practicalities, and on it's own it would not hold the viewers interest for very long. However, the story is only one component of this remarkable work. Every frame of this film is beautifully crafted and it has some of the best cinematography I have ever seen. The locations are spectacular, and shot with such great care that the whole film is an absolute visual delight from start to finish. The soundtrack is just as carefully chosen and serves to enhance the films appeal. The pace is relaxed, as the film gradually seduces the viewer with the idealised Italian lifestyle of Verona. I really enjoyed the experience, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to escape their own reality for a while.

Sophie, a young American woman is a fact checker working for The New Yorker. She is engaged to Victor, a chef and they go on a pre-honeymoon to Verona, Italy, the romantic home of "Romeo and Juliet" While Victor is traveling, all wrapped up in research for his new restaurant, Sophie discovers "Juliet's Courtyard" a place were thousands of "Letters to Juliet" are left each year. A group of local ladies answer these letters on Juliet's behalf and Sophie joins them. "There is a place were the heartbroken leave notes asking Juliet for her help." - Sophie While collecting these letters, Sophie finds a letter hidden behind a brick.... written in 1957! From a young British girl, Claire. "I didn't go to Lorenzo Juliet. I promised I'd meet him to run away together but instead I left him waiting for me. Please Juliet tell me what I should do. Love, Claire" - Letter Sophie decides to answer the letter and writes Claire back. Well Claire gets that letter and she shows up in Verona to Juliet's Courtyard with her grandson, Charlie. However Charlie is not happy about the letter and totally objects to the entire idea of even coming. They meet Sophie and decide to set out on a quest to find Claire's long lost true love Lorenzo Bartolini. "Charlie doesn't approve, which makes it all the more fun" - Claire There are over 70 Lorenzo Bartolinis in Italy and what if Claire's Lorenzo is married and has totally forgotten her? Charlie thinks so but Sophie is totally sure that Lorenzo is still waiting on his Juliet. "I'm, sorry, I didn't know love had an expiration date." - Sophie What a beautiful movie! The story is beautiful! The actors are beautiful! Italy is beautiful! Oh and Vanessa Redgrave is so beautiful and just absolutely wonderful as the star-crossed lover seeking her Romeo after 50 years. Maybe the story is a bit predictable but I really love watching how this love story plays out. Wow! Such a rare enjoyable and fun romantic adventure. Cast - Vanessa Redgrave, Amanda Seyfried, Franco Nero, Christopher Egan, Gael García Bernal

Not as good as I remember but still it was perfect for the summer. I still love Vanessa and her romance it's cute. But Amanda's romance was cringe and she had no chemistry with either man. Still cute and nostalgic ngl.

Lindo. O romance não é cheio de amores e mostra um lado encantador mais baseado na realidade, afinal, nem tudo são flores, não é mesmo. (é "mais" mesmo, e não "mas") Bela história para terminar com o coração em paz.

I am truly, completely, deeply in love with this film. I love Amanda Seyfried and she is fantastic as Sophie

This movie was pretty good. It was a good storyline and visually it was stunning.

It's not a complete success as some parts appear to be missing, and yet it is well worth watching all the better to understand "what if..."?!

Movie has some limp moments. The buildup to the first and second climaxes can be dragged out, especially when you know what's occurring, but the culmination is done well and we all had a good cry. Seyfried managed to become charming; the English guy not so much.

The story had me hooked, and made me believe that true love can be your destiny, no matter your age . I hope I find it myself one day . I cried at the end . Tears of joy ! Terry.

It was quite fun till around the end where I feel like they rushed everything to give it a happily ever after feel. It was was almost like watching a play

Sep 13, 2020

How did she ever date this skinny Italian dude who only cares about food. And that English dude is so negative. No chemistry between them. Lame love story full of cliches.

Just a nice, feel good movie. Wife and I cried happy tears.🤗

I absolutely love this movie! I never get tired of this! Also a little fun fact, the actress who played Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) and the actor who played Lorenzo (Franco Nero) were together in the 1960s, then separated for a little over 40 years, and then they got back together in 2006 and got married on December 31, 2006. Their life was somewhat similar to their characters. That story makes the movie so much more special to me!
