Rivals Reviews
It's a beautiful story about two brothers on the opposite side of the law but that love each other deeply in spite of their differences. That's what makes this french movie a good option to watch at home: it touches you and will make you cry, besides the great costumes and scenarios. On the other hand, their love interests are quite amusing but aren't explored in the script the way they deserved, which is a shame. The soundtrack is weak too as Canet's performance.
The story, the directing and the actors make it a very good film ... it's just that it really is UNFINISHED!!! Hate the ending, honestly.
I love European crime movies and I particularly like European crime movies of the 70s... This movie, although not an out and out crime movie is set in the 70s and explores the tumultuous relationship between two brothers, one a cop and one a criminal. This sort of relationship and interplay has been explored before and this film, while does not offer anything fresh is still an enjoyable affair with good performances Guillame Canet and Franois Cluzet.
a decent 70s cops and robbers movie, that has the undertone of family unity. i really like the 70s styling in how it was filmed and the music made it feel almost like a mcqueen action film, but my problem was that it felt a little lacking and underdeveloped with a very abrupt ending. this is a film that needs, god forbid, an american remake, just to fill it out a bit with a rewrite and use it's potential that it very much has.
Good movie. Les Liens du sang is a French crime drama set in the 70's about two brothers one a cop, the other an ex-con just released from prison after doing ten years for murder. I loved the stylish direction and the authentic camera work. The acting was top drawer throughout the cast, and the story was always interesting, with nice use of sub-plots. However I wasn't too satisfied with the ending, as it left me a bit empty.

1970s setting french drama following 2 brothers, one a cop, the other a criminal freshly released from jail, the cop gets on with his brother and helps him get started again, but with life on the outside hard, will it be a matter of time when his own ways start again. the 70s setting is authentic, with a great soundtrack throughout, and the story while at times conveniant and a lot of events linked, engageing, the two leads are worth watching, while the rest of the cast are too. a good little french crime film
A film to be admired for its style more than its substance, this period crime meller looks so authentically 70s with its bleeding, washed out colours and great set design. For much of its length, its just like watching an extended 온라인카지노추천 cop show, ie. not terribly original or involving. The cop element is routine, but as a drama about two feuding brothers on opposite side of the law it works slightly better thanks to two great performances. Who knew Francois Cluzet could be so sleazy, and Guillaume Canet looks even more beautiful than he normally does. That luscious hair of his was made for 70s set cinema. If only these wonderful actors were serviced by a story with a bit more oomph.
François Cluzet au top comme d'habitude. G Canet jouant de façon assez juste le rôle du frère flic un peu trop naif à mon goût.
this is a wonderfull little gem of a film from france it was very melowdramatic but witty at the sme tyme i guess you could say its the frence version of we own the night. proud cop with a dilinquent bro makes good but then throws life away. on the whole this film has it all action drama n hummor so overall supriseingf ly very good :)
I have to agree with much of what Mike McCahill has said below. Given the material, this film felt lightweight in almost every way, when it should have been hard-hitting. Rivals, which tells the true story of brothers who, having chosen different paths in their lives, are reunited when the older of the two is released from prison. I found the policeman to be strangely naive about the things going on around him and the softly, softly approach just doesn't cut it. It is all just a little too subtle, though watchable in the sense that I enjoy the French language generally and had a bit of fun not looking at subtitles now and again. Lacklustre and steadfastly average
