Life of Pi Reviews

Mar 20, 2025

Life of Pi was such a fun watch, super engaging, and heartfelt. The storms looked amazing and realistic just like the tiger. I’ve always loved movies told as stories since Narnia so this film was exciting for me. My favorite part was watching all the fish fly around Pi.

After reading the book, I found this movie to be quite dissapointing. I was never drawn in, and it felt like it was missing something. I wish they delved more into Pi's religious backstory, as I found that to be one of the most interesting parts of the book.

An excellent adaptation of an excellent book, though the energy differs between the formats. While the book prioritizes slow, thoughtful, intimate connections with the characters, the movie opts for more audio and visual spectacle through which to tell the story. The film both embellishes and simplifies a lot of aspects of the story, but most of the changes are understandable given the medium. It’s difficult to provide the same narrative depth in this format, but the filmmakers have done a good job of still hitting the highlights of the story and getting similar points across. The film is one of the most visually beautiful that I’ve seen. The special effects do manage to keep up with the director’s intent, though only barely. But the use of color and scale dive so much depth to everything on screen, miraculously making each scene feel unique, despite most of the story taking place in a tiny boat on an empty ocean. Not to mention the music which magnificently blends traditional Indian music with French and sea-faring influences, much like the titular character’s background. The ending reveal still carries a lot of weight, even when you know it’s coming, mostly due to the excellent performances from the actors. Inspirational and touching, Life of Pi is a narrative, visual, and audio spectacle that absolutely deserves all of the awards it won.

An exceptional achievement. I was deeply stirred in a way I found hard to understand. Something important for me was uncovered in the watching.

The images created with CGI enhance the movie to a very high level. The CGI is so good, especially for its time, like I genuinely thought the tiger was real, when in reality it was just a stuffed toy. I think the CGI definitely adds to the film, but at times you could tell that there was a green screen. For example when Pi and Richard Parker were looking over the ocean you could tell it was a green screen. Overall I thought it was a great movie and I really loved the use of CGI.

The Life of Pi was very engaging and fun film. I think the story telling narrative was very good and the cgi in this film was extraordinary. The tiger looked so life like and since it was so life like you really felt like Pi was in danger when in reality he was not. I think my favorite scene where cgi was used is when the whale comes out of the water because it looked really good.

The Life of pi was very engaging with the cgi like the where the whale jumps out of the water or sharks swimming in front of him or even the tiger that is with pi the whole movie are cgi which makes this movie even more impressive than just the engaging plot.

The movie made me read the book, and that's really saying something because I've only ever read maybe 5 books. It was that good. So good infact, that I read almost any article, or watch any discussion I come across regarding this story.

"Life of Pi" is one of those films that leaves you with a new message after each watch. A journey of religion, individuality, humanity, survival, and so much more. The film's message is ambiguous yet powerful, and is only accentuated by its breathtaking VFX and cinematography. Some viewers might be in search of a more solidified ending or an objective meaning, but that doesn't take away from its beauty as a poetic film adaptation.

This is one of the best movies ever made. I watched this movie before reading the book, now whether the order in which I did this had influence in which I thought was better, the book or the movie, I do not know. For me what made this movie so unique was that it had meaning, it was metaphoric. The theme of the meaning of life was very apparent, with religion and instinct mixed within. What made this movie beautiful was of course the cinematography, the shots of the great ocean being boundless, the elements of nature and their cruelness. This is my favourite movie what can I say, the actors were great particularly Irrfan Khan and Rafe Spall, good CGI, but above that was the spiritual sound track and the slowed pace towards the end of the movie, you felt utterly at peace at times, powerless and drifting like Pi himself like you had accepted god(s) plan.

This is my favorite book of all time. I have no idea how Ang Lee did it, but he somehow surpassed the amazingness of the original medium and created one of the most perfect movies not just that I've ever seen, but, I'd argue, that has ever been made. Even if the story was a yawner (which it most definitely *isn't), the film is so visually engrossing that you wouldn't notice. It's like an hour and a half of the most perfectly composed photographs, assembled into a flip book for your enjoyment. I still can't believe this movie is as good as it is. Absolutely love it, forever. ❤️🐯

I watched this movie and I loved it. Nice story with sea adventure, exiting moment of swing between life and death in drastic ocean.

One of the best and most unique films ever made. A must see.

In terms of cinematography, this movie is underrated. I don’t often see frames of this movie on the internet compared to other visually aesthetic films. The lines/dialogue is simple yet thought provoking.

Still holds up after all these years. The intersection of pain and visual splendor still make for a moving film experience.
