Critics Consensus

London Fields bungles its beloved source material and an intriguingly eclectic cast, leaving audiences with a would-be neo-noir of interest only to the morbidly curious.

David Fear Rolling Stone Nothing works - certainly not forcing Amber Heard to become a vamping pin-up, ogled by the camera like it was a horny college freshman. Rated: .5/5 Oct 31, 2018 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com A boring and garish mess that even fans of the book will find nearly impossible to follow. Rated: .5/4 Oct 26, 2018 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Quite simply, horrendous - a trashy, tortured misfire from beginning to end. Oct 25, 2018 Full Review Brigid Presecky FF2 Media This hodgepodge of a mystery thriller is one to skip. Rated: 2/5 Aug 19, 2019 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Perhaps the most bizarre cinematic disaster of 2018. Rated: 2/10 Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue As the hopelessly muddled film toggles between fact and fiction, it becomes pretentious and incoherent, leaving little room for emotional investment. Alex W As far as a femme fatale, Nicola's character is extremely stunning and acts the part with some minor difficulties. I enjoyed the aspect of Billy Bob Thornton's character Samson breaking the fourth wall under the guise of writing a book. Some of the acting is subpar with some rough spots of cinematography. Overall, I really enjoyed the casting, character development, and the plot of the movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review John D The book is excellent the film is a dreadful mess and is just bad Guy Ritchie. Avoid this trash and read the book. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Jelisije J A movie where the entire plot is one big plot whole..... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Moko K One of the dumbest movies ever. Don't waste your time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Lani K Jessica Rabbit already did this role to perfection. Best scene was Keith dancing to Dire Straits. That was inspired. Was Thornton killing time, doing a favor, passing by the studio one day? Why is an actor of his caliber in this? I can almost understand Depp's involvement. Without Thornton there's no hook, no anchor. Even then it's adrift. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Shirley C A complete disaster. I don't know what I was hoping for but watching this was a waste of my valuable time. I don't know who cast this film but there should have been more auditions. You can't always make a decent film out a book. They tried here and utterly missed the mark here. If I could give it zero stars I would. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
