This film is poignant, sobering and thought provoking. I thought Brenda Blethyn gave a particularly good performance, even though I found her character infuriating at times (I could understand why she reacts and does what she does but I also felt sad for the other main character involved) and the plotline is very important, in terms of highlighting the importance of people in similar situations letting prejudices go and working together. This is quite a memorable film that I felt was well made, quite respectful of the serious themes it covers. I would definitely recommend this film, yes.

A blatant look at prejudice wonderfully portrayed by the actors. Some may find its pace too slow especially for the short attention span audience, but I enjoyed the careful, realistic process.

Truly appalling. Aside from the crude stereotypes of nasty Christians and saintly Muslims, the script is implausible, the plot creaky and the execution of the story poor. A great pity - the subject matter deserved far better.

'London River' has a lot to say about how people view each other, especially of those with different cultures and appearances. After the July 7th, 2005 bombings in London, Elisabeth Sommers (Brenda Blethyn) and Ousmane (Sotigui Kouyate) are unexpectedly brought together with the news of their missing children. Fearing they are dead, Sommers and Ousmane tirelessly search. At the beginning, Sommers is limited by her prejudice towards Ousmane and others of his religion. She does not like being near Muslims and fears for her life. But as the journey goes along she realizes how similar she actually is to Ousmane and that begins an unexpected, but lovely bond. Sommers and Kouyate are the emotional drivers of the film. You truly feel they are suffering this uncertainty and potential tragedy. They play off each other very naturally. Kouyate is especially enthralling as Ousmane in one of his last roles. While some of the message may come off as simple, 'London River' is very effective and can remind viewers of valuable lessons.

A precursor to Mary and Martha, another BB film with similar plot structure - parents seeking to understand the loss of their children. A tough subject tackled sensitively, although the narrative got a bit weird in places. Blethyn is always excellent, and Kouyaté has a splendid face and is well-suited to his role.

This brings back the horror of 7th July 2005 when London suffered terrorist attacks on its transport system. Brenda Blethyn is excellent as the woman who is desperate to find her missing daughter and she befriends a man also searching for his child. It is relentlessly grim with frequent scenes of real news coverage from that awful day.

On July 7, 2005, Elisabeth(Brenda Blethyn) is watching the news when reports start to come in of the terrorist bombings in London and tries calling her daughter there. After a couple of days and no response, she leaves her home in Guernsey and travels to London. When her daughter is not in at her apartment, her landlord(Roschdy Zem) kindly lets Elisabeth in to wait for her. Meanwhile, Ousmane(Sotigui Kouyate) has arrived from France to look for his son who he has not seen since he was six and asks a local imam(Sami Bouajila) for help. "London River" is a poignant, evocative and devastating movie that shows that sometimes simple is the best way to go, headlined as it is by a couple of superb performances. The movie also works well in bringing a huge tragedy down to a deeply personal level. And making it more interesting is the subject of Elisabeth's ignorance of not only her daughter's life in London but also of multicultural London in general, far away from her isolated farm, just as Ousmane also has little idea of what his son is like now grown up. But like any parent, Elisabeth and Ousmane worry about their children, even now that they are adults.

London River is a keeper. We follow two parents trying to find their children, who are missing after the July 7, 2005 bombing in London. One parent is a British woman and the other is a tall, black African man. Each is unassuming; each comes from very different backgrounds. What I found striking was how differently each is treated by officials. This is truly a drama, but a beautifully directed and acted drama. I will not forget this one.

Was astonished to see Mrs. Sommers react so quickly to Mr. Ousmane's sharing, that there no ambivalence or hesitation but an instant fear well-played where she did recover. The film to me shows those in London act more accurately with the truth of what to do when frightened.
