Looking Glass Reviews
Looking Glass is a surprisingly not unhinged Nicolas Cage film that works.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 12, 2020
Despite being billed as a suspense thriller, there is zero suspense throughout, questions that are raised never answered satisfyingly, and even as it throws a twist towards the end, there are so few characters here that you just don't give a damn about.
| Original Score: 2/10 | Apr 6, 2018
Looking Glass wastes its talented cast on poor writing filled with clich after clich, an odd and uninviting artistic vision from the ground up, thinly developed characters, and an overabundance of narratives and plot devices.

The result is a hollow vehicle that Cage simply floats through on autopilot, and he peers through a mirror at a more exciting world beyond his grasp, it's impossible not to relate.
| Original Score: D | Feb 20, 2018
Nicolas Cage dials it down a few notches for a derivate thriller about strange doings at a desert motel.
| Feb 18, 2018
The ubiquitous Cage is more understated than usual these days, which is a drawback since that consequently spotlights the uninspired film's tedious incoherence.

For Cage, this is a big step back toward respectability.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 16, 2018
Nicolas Cage's starring presence explains why it's such a compelling and offbeat little thriller.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 16, 2018
Cage tones down the theatrics that sometime derail films in which he appears.

One can't be blamed for hoping that this combination of talents at this time might combust into something interesting.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Feb 16, 2018
When a subdued Nicolas Cage is the best thing about your movie, well...
| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 16, 2018
[A]n exercise in seeing how many creepy elements can be added to a story without finding a way to connect them.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Feb 16, 2018
A sadly muted thrill-free thriller, starring a disappointingly manic-deprived Cage.
| Original Score: D+ | Feb 16, 2018
The alchemic tang of peeled-back vice and possible insanity isn't there in Jerry Rapp's plodding screenplay and director Tim Hunter's tension-challenged execution.
| Feb 15, 2018
Nicolas Cage completists will see it, but no one else should feel obligated.
| Feb 15, 2018
It certainly could be better, but it's mildly impressive to watch Hunter make sure it's not worse.
| Original Score: C | Feb 15, 2018
Even the actors' fine efforts cannot rescue Looking Glass from terminal murkiness.
| Feb 15, 2018
Looking Glass isn't a great movie, but it's a very entertaining one, leaning into the wild gesticulations of its lead without exploiting or overusing them.

Bargain basement. If it was made in the nineties would have been a routine skin-e-max programmer.
| Feb 14, 2018
More sincere Cage fans will just sigh, take mild solace in his avoiding yet another low-rent revenge thriller, and hope for the best next time around.
