Julia's Eyes Reviews
A good thriller which could have been much better with a more rewarding final act. Half way into the movie I was able to guess what's going on and I kept hoping that there would be a smart twist waiting to blow me away in the finale. It wasn't the case though. The movie is good though, and the final shot was clever, poetic and memorable.
Great thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. The final act is when things get really good. First and second act you're wondering what exactly is going on but in a good way, movie keeps you intrigued. Surprised this movie isn't as popular, its pretty darn good. A lot better than other movies out there, not really horror or scary but great thriller.
This is a damn good thriller through and through. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire second half (okay not literally; I was lounging on the couch, but I was tense!). Is romance-horror a genre? Rom-hor? I'm coining it: that's what this movie is. This film does an amazing job of keeping audiences guessing. It provides just enough ambiguity to be hard to predict without succumbing to being a black-box mystery. I also love the way it portrays blindness as a life-altering tragedy but not as something to be disrespected or to make one helpless. The framing of shots from the point of view of our occasionally-mostly-blind protagonist are impressive, especially the way that characters' faces are obscured from the camera when she can't see them either. It's a very clever way to draw out the mystery. My only complaint is that it feels tropey at times, almost like a soap opera; we've got twin sisters, cheating husbands, estranged children, imposters, and mysterious physical ailments. All that's missing is for a character to come back from the dead by inhabiting another character's body! But in all seriousness, most of the twists are really really good, but near the end a few of them feel forced. Julia's Eyes is a seriously thrilling ride, even if its twists occasionally feel unnatural. For fans of horror and thrillers, especially those who can appreciate a solid romance story, this is an easy one to recommend.
There's some strong visuals going on here (especially towards the end) and the initial idea is terrifying, but it only really works for the middle act and part of the third act. The first act has an interesting setup that consists of a whodunit/murder mystery, but towards the end it strays a little into unbelievable territory, although the ending itself is pretty great. The weakest part of the film is, without a doubt, the dramatic side of things that attempts to emotionally invest the audience in the characters and relationships, but does a poor job. Overall it's well-acted, nicely shot and has a great idea, but the execution could have been better. Nevertheless, there are some superb scenes that are as tense as they are scary, and for those alone it's probably worth giving it a shot.
A chilling movie this thriller is like I said not as good as The Orphanage but it's still a very good movie.
Overlong, contrived and melodramatic, this is okay in parts but too often feels like something lifted from an eighties slasher.
Julia's Eyes (or) Los ojos de Julia, 2010, Spanish with English Subtitles. Nonstop tension in this absolutely fantastic thriller, mystery & horror movie. Guillermo del Toro was a producer and even though he did not write or direct it this film still feels like one of his. This is a must watch.
I love Spanish horror so much and Julia's Eyes is another good one that I can add to my long list of good ones. The supernatural elements blended intricately with the very real idea of being stalked, and massively shared nightmare of being rendered blind mix very well into a horror that features excellent cinematography (directed by Pan's Labyrinth's Guillermo del Toro) and very honest and brave acting from the title character. The grey, dullish tones bode for a few boring moments and sometimes the story zooms from point to point and its dizzying.

Anyone who has seen Guillermo Del Toro's film, Pan's Labyrinth, knows he has made a masterpiece (in my humble opinion). Those who have not watched his Spanish films may be more familiar with his film, Mama. Whilst Mama is inferior to Pans Labyrinth and more Hollywood, in style, I found it to be exceptionally creepy; as any good horror movie should be. Julia's Eyes is an excellent horror/suspense/thriller. It leaves you guessing as to if the events unfolding are supernatural or the works of a madman. I do wish American's watched more films with subtitles because this is a film, like Pan's Labyrinth, that could not be topped if remade by Hollywood recasting simply to have it in English. This is and excellent film from start to finish that at times has you on the edge of you seat.
a nicely directed thriller that I had different thoughts of what it was and yet came out of it pleasantly pleased with the outcome. there's moments where you are in julias eyes with everyone and question what is going on but that just enhances the feel of what she is going through. decent watch
Don't miss it. The scariest film of the year. Belen Rueda is marvellous in this gritty, scary, original horror flick.
Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole movie. Started of with all the lights off but had to turn some lights on halfway through. A really good thriller.
Absolutely the best horror/suspense movie I have seen in ages! The first half makes you play around with the who's who, which eventually paves the way for one memorable climax.
