From numerous of Helen Mirren's interviews, the film is supposed to sympathise with prostitution, yet it conveys none but only an affair that would be average in another setting. The happy ending felt forced and the narration at the end was awkward. What I found worthwhile was Mirren's portrayal of conflict, resistance then eventual surrender and heartbreak throughout the affair. Even resistant viewers such as myself are emotionally attached to her character at the end of it.

Totally ridiculous that this movie has a 13% rating on rotten tomatoes and it pisses me off this is a fantastic movie I think one of Joe's greatest movies and it's also very heartwarming and romantic love story too also it's an excellent movie in my opinion Helen is also awesome in this trust me see this movie and you will not be disappointed

This was an unknown movie to me that I ended up watching one late night on cable. I'd intended on changing the channel when it came on but it gradually pulled me in. I ended up being pleasantly surprised by this unexpected sleeper special!

Pesci was his usual foul mouthed self. I do expect and want to hear the F bomb but sometimes he just overdoes it and it distracts from his character. The only time I ever saw him in a kinder role was in My Cousin Vinny which I loved and he was brilliant. And without the F bombs. I feel he always wants to revert back to the Goodfella "mode" which in that picutre suited his character. I love Helen Mirren but her part was not a kindly one. And it got a little yucky when she hopped into bed with Bruza. EEEEEEEEEEeow. All in all it showed me what a disgusting place that was to live in and be around.

It's a bit of a jumble, but I didn't find it totally terrible. It starts off as a story about a whore house, then segues into politics, in the middle it becomes a boxing film and at the end it's more towards a May December type romance. Interesting enough, but won't be getting a rewatch.

Love Ranch isn't a bad movie- it flows smoothly, has good performances, and has a sharp, tight script. But the movie seems a but pointless. Why did this particular story need to be told?

When It Comes To Love... Everyone Pays A Price. 1976. Grace est mariée à son associé Charlie Bontempo, et ils dirigent ensemble le premier bordel légal du Nevada, le love ranch. Quand elle apprend qu'elle souffre d'un cancer et qu'il ne lui reste peut-être plus beaucoup de temps à vivre, Grace décide de ne pas le dire à son mari. Charlie lui, décide d'investir dans un boxeur argentin du nom de Armando Bruza, et pour occuper Grace, de faire d'elle son entraineur. Au début plutôt tendue, la relation entre eux deux va évoluer dans une direction que Grace ne s'attendait pas. Ce mélodrame inspiré de faits réels aurait pu se fracasser méchamment s'il avait été joué de manière exagérée ou trop amateure. Heureusement, la sublime Helen Mirren enlève toute dimension kitsch à un personnage qui pourrait facilement l'avoir été, et lui donne une profondeur et une intelligence très à propos. La première partie est assez plate et présente surtout les occupants du love ranch. L'intérêt commence avec l'arrivée d'Armando, l'effet de ce dernier sur Grace et inversément. L'alchimie entre les deux est vraiment plaisante et crédible. On les soutient dans leur désir d'évasion et on enrage sur leur destin. On peut aussi souligner le retour de l'emblématique Joe Pesci, même si c'est pour le retrouver avec une attitude similaire à ce qu'il a déjà fait.

I missed this film when it first came out, so I was so happy that I found it today and what a great story it is. I realize this is based on the now defunct Mustang Ranch, so I was extremely curious to see their adaption. Why? Let's not go there, but the wonderful Helen Mirren carries the whole film on her back. By the way this translation is wrong: Grace Bontempo: [listening to music] Who? Armando Bruza: Carlo Cavalli. Grace Bontempo: Carlo Cavalli. Carlo Cavalli. Armando Bruza: He's God. Grace Bontempo: He's God? No, Elvis is God. He kept saying CARLOS GARDEL not Carlo Cavalli. as far as I know Carlo Cavalli it's a new millenium DJ not an Argentinian Tango God!

Joe Pesci playing Nicky Santoro from Casino so it's worth watching for that only

One of my Top 10 of this year ! It was equally erotic and emotional, while the spot on performances by Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci only add to the talent of the supporting cast, who come off as naturals. I enjoyed the underlying love stories and honesty portrayed in the adaptation of a real life couple who ran a "love ranch" in Reno, NV.

This movie has some really interesting moments but is a bit all over the place.

One of those movies that's not really terrible, in fact it's hard to decide exactly how I feel about it. The story is just bleh, don't care kinda boring and I'd give it 2 stars but I gave it one extra star just for Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci who are both excellent as you'd expect. But those two leads and their porformances in the film itself you'd want the film to have been much better than it was. I would have prefered a more docu-drama approach (like Casino) and had learned something new but no, this is a film where the only reason to see it is because of the two main actors but because the two are so good it just makes you wish they had something much better to work with.

Not one to pick up for Valentine's Day. This is the classic case of good actors going through the motions for a payday. Shame on Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci for working on such a trite script and story. A very forgettable depiction of a legal brothel. Should have been far more interesting.
