Lucky Reviews
Lucky is a lovely, small film. It's an ode to living. A farewell to a well-lived life, and an acceptance of what comes after.

Harry Dean Stanton felt perfectly comfortable accepting dozens and dozens of small roles, but before he left this world, he resonates, as Lucky, with a soulful and matter-of-fact leading performance.

He is proof that sometimes you really don't know what you have until it is gone. Stanton may no longer be around, but his versatile resume remains. Lucky stands among some of his finest work.

It's a blip, unlikely to make you rethink your perspective on the aging process even as it tries to convince you that what it has to say is really artful and important.

It is difficult to express how much I loved Lucky, a film that can be and should be interpreted differently by everyone who watches it.

You shouldn't go see Lucky... just because Stanton died not long ago. You should go because it's a wonderful, fundamentally life-affirming film that honors much of what made Stanton so unique both as a person and an actor.

Lucky could best be described as a hangout movie, and I mean that as the highest of compliments.

If you truly value cinema and the importance of an actor's craft, you'll make the effort to appreciate this affecting swan song.

Harry Dean Stanton gave the movie world a gift with his last and final performance. It is a fitting tribute to a man who's body of work contained only two lead roles; in this film and in Paris, Texas.

Lucky is all about the metatextual pleasure of spending 90 final minutes with one of cinema's all-time most entertaining actors, and for that, it is a pure gift.

Continuously unearths affecting ways of making cantankerous endearing.

How this movie could exist so perfectly baffles me, but I'm very glad it does.

Harry Dean Stanton was a talent that will never be forgotten, but the chances are, once the hype from the festival circuit dies down, this film will be.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Dec 14, 2018
Lucky is one big, warm farewell to Harry Dean Stanton, a man who didn't hug the spotlight or seek out starring roles, but who made even the smallest parts count.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 10, 2018
Lucky may be a movie devoid of intense conflict but it's the warmth that the film exudes in all of its characters that make it a wonderful little movie.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 30, 2018
Most actors don't get the opportunity to dictate their cinematic epitaph, and Lucky makes for a lively wake.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 29, 2018
Lucky is, according to its creators, a "love letter" to Stanton. At times, this tribute exceeds the purpose of showing how lovable the honoree was. [Full review in Spanish]
