Lucky Them Reviews
-- very intresting . Thursday they know your coming! your simply not available. your going home. thanks j
It was pretty entertaining but was a bit long. I'd never want to watch it again.
There are a lot of clichés present here, but thankfully the film knocks most of them down in the end to ensure it's main character doesn't have too happy of an ending. Collette's charming as ever and Haden Church gives one of his weirder performances (which I do mean as a compliment).
Fun movie. Not exquisite but good.
horrific screenplay about a self-centered, slutty, immature, alcoholic, sexaholic, shallow, morally bankrupt woman who uses everyone around her. Has some very good actors, but they could not possibly save this trashy movie.
toni collete is always good. the surprise johnny depp cameo at the end was actually a detriment to the movie. I understand the desire to have a star in that role that surprises at the end. the problem is that we were so distracted by johnny depp that we couldnt appreciate the actual moment, and beautiful and tender moment at that, because we were so caught off guard. not to mention the entire movie is about finding this person. its hard to think of anyone that would have lived up to an entire movies worth of hype. i think the movie would have been better off if we knew what he looked like before hand but it was actually just a no name actor of some sort instead of hoping that the star quality is enough to satisfy the audiences need for that celebrity quality from that character.
Never been a big fan of Toni Collette but she is always at least good in her roles, here she is at times very good but then can dip heading towards bad. Thomas Haden Church is amusing enough to make the two together mostly enjoyable. A pretty nice and surprising ending helps to improve the overall story.
A bitter sweet drama focused on the disappearance of a local Seattle rock star. Collette (as the rock star's former flame) goes on the search to see if he died or just went rogue. Eggold offers the pretty boy charm and support to the plot, and Hayden Church steals every scene as he helps Collette find closure in her investigation. Well told, and...kinda sad.
This is a great film about ghosts. Ghosts of our past that inflect themselves in our current lives. We chase and ponder and struggle with the whereabouts of said ghost and transmit to the universe that maybe just maybe our lives would have turned out different. The what ifs abound in chasing the past, rather than singing in this moment. We throw away the record of that person, when really it just needs to be filed away and occasionally visited. The cast was great, the writing, albeit a little scattered and dry was still entertaining. This is a glimpse into a life, maybe its our life, maybe a friends life, who knows. I was easily able to identify and relate to the characters in this story much like my own life. If you appreciate music, love and your past, then maybe you will be able to identify with this fun and entertaining film. Otherwise, maybe this isn't your tune.
There's definitely something entertaining in this simple comedy drama. But boring is a more prominent description for it.
She is def. too old for the part, but maybe that works too, as she needed to move on from her feckless youth.....
Bottom Line: I think I would have enjoyed this film more if I attempted to deconstruct it (listen to the score, sound cues, attempt to convert a scene into a pages of a screenplay..). Having left my 'angst-y days' behind me --- I might have tuned out during the sections of the film when Ellie was stuck with what was happening in her life. Then when I was paying very close attention, I was looking at scene photography. I know it's not as heavy (or tragic!) as 'In The Bedroom', it's just my way of picking something to watch (or continuing on) is for motivation or inspiration. So mostly what I go for now (aside from the film having to be rated 'M' or below) are films that have an element of hope in it...that can grab me by the hand and be able to hang on to me until the end. This did...and somehow...even gave me the idea to watch it again...closely while deconstructing it. Well...that's something! That's why I gave it 3 stars out of 5. Note: feel free to reach out to me (wondernotenvy.wordpress.com/contact) for a copy of my time-stamp review of this film (or score cue notes!). I do recommend you see the it first, but if you already sure that it isn't for you based on what I've wrote (whoa! The trust! Hehehe) --- I'm okay with that.
This movie is pretty jokes. The story is nice and the movie is well done but the characters are pretty jokes.
A likeable road trip with the ever wonderful Toni Collette. She is in search for one last chance at an interview with a long lost boyfriend who disappeared. There is a lot going on and its a little muddled but its watchable thanks to Thomas Hayden church and Toni Colette. look out for a strange cameo
Low-key drama with some humorous moments to enjoy, although it's mainly about the fragmented love-life of Toni Colette's character. It's handled well.
nice film humor of Thomas haden keeps the film going along with the drama. a well balanced drama with humor. A nice film to watch.
