Madame Web Reviews
Madame Web‘s tenuous grasp on the viewer is loosened significantly once it moves into its episodic, meandering midsection...
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Dec 16, 2024
Madame Web is not fun and not entertaining. Most of all, it’s disappointing, because it teases you with possibilities that never come to bear.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Oct 20, 2024
Madame Web is destined for endless memes and the “so bad it’s good” treatment. People tried to do the same with Morbius, yet in this case, we have a movie that you can tell had a unique vision at first but was stumped by Sony’s usual studio antics.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 3, 2024
...the reality of Madame Web is that its poor execution of storytelling, editing, and acting make it incredibly hard to get through.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jul 28, 2024
It’s so poorly, laughably designed and implemented that it’s as if it were a student film, and not some colossally-budgeted Hollywood epic.
| Original Score: 2/10 | Jul 20, 2024
Madame Web is the type of bad that’s so all-consuming that it achieves a bizarre majesty. If it weren’t for the headache-inducing craftsmanship, it would have to be seen to be believed.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 19, 2024
Not the hilariously bad disaster you may have heard about but a prime example of superhero fatigue reaching cast members too.

After watching Madame Web, viewers may quickly realize they don't have a clue who Madame Web actually is.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jul 8, 2024
Once you untangle the web of mysteries you end up going “oh… that's it?”
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 4, 2024
Johnson, thankfully, acts with enough aloofness to show this is all nonsense.

By the halfway point, when you realize Cassie still needs to go hear some platitudes from an offensive Peruvian stereotype, it feels like the movie is just bullying you for no reason.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 2, 2024
This clairvoyant superhero origin story starring Dakota Johnson is a failure in just about every way.
| Jun 24, 2024
Johnson tries to evoke Cassandra’s inner turmoil, and the scenes between her and Scott offer glimpses of a more promising project. But any potential gets buried early, beneath clumsy exposition, clunky special effects, and disconnected editing.

Madame Web is plenty of things — mediocre, dull, boring, unnecessary and goofy — but the worst comic book movie? No, it’d need to be especially committed to something at a high level for that accolade as opposed to simply immediately forgettable.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Jun 3, 2024
This was not a fun watch. Nothing made sense and Dakota Johnson seemed like she couldn't be bothered during key scenes in the film.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jun 2, 2024
One of the worst superhero films in recent memory. Unfortunately, there's nothing redeeming about this.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jun 2, 2024
Johnson’s charm does keep the film afloat...and the chemistry of the younger leads makes for breezy fun. Never overstaying its welcome and complete with a throwback ’90s/aughts soundtrack, Madame Web could find a future where it belongs.

This is the worst cast superhero movie in recent memory.

So shockingly inept that it's hard to believe its real.

Alfred Hitchcock said “To make a great film you need three things- the script, the script, and the script”. Madame Web is the perfect example of what happens when those three things are missing.
