Make It Happen Reviews
Irk …. Tired of supposed dancers who can’t dance and just flip their hair and swirl around the stage … might as well called it another “save the last dance spin off”
This is my guilty pleasure movie. I love it! I especially love Tessa Thompson in the film. Really like the story, the dances the music and the outfits in the film. My only criticism is the romance story she has with the dj guy, it was a bit dry and predictable. But I always really enjoy this movie. Very inspiring.
Its star makes it watchable but all the other aspects of the film are cable movie of the week quality.
With these types of movies it comes down to, do you enjoy the dancing and do you enjoy the cast? Well, Mary Elizabeth Winstead yes. The dancing different than what you would expect. So, not a half bad movie.
Lauryn Kirk is a small town girl from Indiana that has one dream of being-accepted into a highly acclaimed dance school in Chicago. She & her brother Joel have lost both parents; her brother is weary of her decision but understands her choice of wanting to depart. When Lauryn starts her audition for the judges she gets stopped in the middle; & told that her performance is just not good enough to make the short cut of acceptance. Feeling depression she stops into a dinner shop: before leaving Chicago where she meets an affable waitress (as fate would have it) that is a dancer for a club called Ruby's who also takes her to the club the next night. Well she is there she lands a job as a bookkeeper; later she becomes one of the top dancers. This was a feel good type movie; for me it was predictable from start to finish never the less it, was entertaining. A good film for a couple to watch together; I am going to go a moderate thumb up for this film.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives a strong performance as a small town girl trying to make it at the top dance school in Chicago. When she doesn't get accepted, she has to earn a living by being a dancer in a risque nightclub. Her brother tries to bring her back home to run the family business, but she doesn't want that life anymore. I actually liked this movie, it will probably remind you of countless other movies about young women trying to make it in the big city but Winstead gives a great acting performance and handles her dance scenes like a pro. Check it out.
i really love Winstead, but not too much love her role in this movie. Well, i can say it becuz i think it's not pretty good dance movie, becuz Winstead as i see not a big surprised in it, well i surprised that she could dance, i was never thought of it that she could. I mean, in the dance that she brings, not too much surpises, u know.
The story was bad - it was so predictable! The acting wasn't so bad but it wasn't anything special. The dialogue needed some work but I did enjoy the dance scenes. I thought they were hot and very enjoyable.
Blahest dance movie. Ever. Besides the fact that it is boringly predictable in its plot it is a fail wannabe cross between burlesque and step up... yuck.
Pretty average as far as dance films go! The best scene was the one in the suit! Amazing moves! This girl can dance!
Cheesy, formulaic, but not bad. It's been done often, but this is a good version of the same recycled script.
In the "follow your dreams" Dance movie genre this one isn't hideous... just predictable, cliche and "chick-flickey", but then again why did I even bother watching this knowing what I was gonna get. I have a secret crush on the dangerously cute (and Hot) Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who played Lucy McClaine in "Live Free or Die HArd"). She's a knockout and a damn decent dancer as well. This film, in itself, is a snore. It should have really popped with high energy editing and tight choreograpy, but instead it was mediocre in both departments. BUT for a flick made for 15 year old girls it could have been much worse im sure. Its a low rent version of FLASHDANCE but with the bent being that it highlights "Burlesque" dancing. SILLY. Just gimme more MARY E. in tighter outfits for the direct-to-dvd sequel please.
