An all time classic. A complete gem and non-stop ride of some of the best one liners ever. If you don't agree, you can enjoy some chocolate covered pretzels.

Mallrats is a classic Askewniverse movie, full of Smith's signature witty dialogue and pop culture references. Mallrats is not for everyone. The film is full of dirty jokes and immature humour, and it is not afraid to push boundaries. However, those who are fans of Kevin Smith will appreciate the film's humour and its 90s nostalgia. Mallrats is not a masterpiece, but it is a very enjoyable little film. The film is well-acted and well-directed, and it is full of memorable moments. Mallrats is the perfect movie for the right audience.

"Mallrats" is a decent comedy film that offers a nostalgic look at the 90s mall culture. The cast, led by Jason Lee and Shannen Doherty, delivers strong performances, and the film's humor will resonate with audiences who grew up during that era. A special mention to the king of cameo's, Stan Lee, who's amazing in this film as himself and once again adds a very unique charm to the film. However, the film's plot is somewhat predictable and the pacing can be slow at times. Mallrats is a fun watch for fans of the genre but may not appeal to a broader audience.

What could get you hooked on Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse is not the blandly, comedically average "Clerks", which admittedly I need to revisit, it's a trip to the mall and become one of the "Mallrats". It's a prequel to the former film, whereas it started the interconnective franchise currently spanning across nine films but on a disinteresting note upon initial introductive approach. Nothing further has been compelled as it could go either beneath or doubtfully surpass, its only garnering aspect is Stan Lee's featured participation. Those skeptically lowered expectations thankfully prep for a surprisingly hilarious comedy in a reminiscing form stemmed from its era. What fuels the picture is the script's relatability as the characters converse organically and would sometimes throw their two cents on timely topics or frequent observations the viewers share with a comedically spinning payoff. It's reasonable if Smith's inspirational boost originated from seeing Richard Linklater's independent breakthrough "Slacker", then met similar success as the scope widens as he expands the character-driven, small-scale films with the thematic core's intended setting retained. The characters would echo common thoughts and twist it amusingly as effective comedic pawns, while at least one would remain rational when interacting with their funny absurdity. "Mallrats" is a time capsule that captures its filmed period really well in all the nostalgically colorful feeling radiating from the reflective backdrop's embracing its defunct unique style. Walking around like they own the place are best friends T.S. and Brodie hanging out at their mall, pondering what to do in life related to their respective troubled relationships they just lost. T.S. was dumped by his girlfriend Brandi after she announced to him she's participating in a dating game show that's being filmed at the mall. Meanwhile, Brodie disapproves of his ex, Rene, already dating the sleazy store manager Shannon. The buddy duo starts planning on interfering in the game show, but they must avoid Brandi's father Jared, who planted the breakup. The criticism aimed towards its failure to match the original it precedes may be based on observations getting lost amidst the praised expansion branching across different characters. There's a sense of realism previously, while this film is slightly cheesier in focusing only on treating the characters that underlines familiar genericity rather than the associated individualism. Nonetheless, the expansive cast's verbally crazed energy and the comedically solid script bolsters the film with unexpected hilarity, sometimes crafted with clever touches. While "Clerks" sensibly connects, "Mallrats" is the definite invitation to check out the potential these stories hold as it standardizes the entertainment value while also defends the original starter towards a second chance. It's been a while since watching one installment, as part of many, to be intrigued to check out the others now that the writer-director-creator's caliber been formally discovered. Just going to wait and see how this recently discovered endeavor plays out depends on the characterized treatments. (B+)

For this film is typical kevin Smith brilliance with the as you'd expect comic book references and a little bit of sexuality thrown....every character is cast perfectly as usual and I genuinely can't think of a weak performance they all bring each character to life exactly how you'd expect them to be in a kevin Smith movie....sarcasm humour and off the cuff jokes a plenty and the fun factor is there too...I don't actually know how many times I've seen this movie :)
